Clinical Assistant- Substance Abuse Treatment Mobile Unit (Part-time)
Hourly pay: $18.17/hour
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 12:30 pm
The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board is hiring a part-time Clinical Assistant to support its Substance Abuse Treatment Mobile Unit. This position involves assisting with client intake, maintaining clinical records, verifying insurance coverage, and supporting individuals in accessing mental and behavioral health services.
This is an onsite role suited for individuals who enjoy engaging with clients, can adapt to a dynamic work setting, and are motivated to contribute to community-focused behavioral health care.

ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Clinical Assistant on our Mobile Unit team, you will play a key role in supporting individuals as they access behavioral health and substance use treatment services. This position combines client interaction, administrative coordination, and clinical support to ensure a smooth and responsive care experience.
Key responsibilities include:
โ€ข Conduct client intake, pre-registration, and collect medical histories and required documentation
โ€ข Verify insurance benefits, including Medicaid and Medicare, and determine financial eligibility
โ€ข Review client records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance, and communicate any discrepancies to clinical staff
โ€ข Assist clients throughout the assessment, admission, and treatment process via phone and in-person support
โ€ข Maintain organized and accurate clinical documentation while educating clients on available programs and services
โ€ข Support outreach and engagement efforts to reduce barriers to care and reconnect individuals who have missed appointments
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN A CLINICAL ASSISTANT
To qualify, candidates must meet ONE of the following:
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in Human Services and six (6) months of experience working with clinical documentation
OR
โ€ข Associate degree in Human Services, Business, or a medical specialty plus one (1) year of experience working with clinical documentation
OR
โ€ข Three (3) years of specialized experience involving financial screening, insurance verification, accounts receivable, or assessing client ability to pay for services
PREFERRED SKILLS
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
โ€ข Knowledge of behavioral health, mental health, or healthcare environments
โ€ข Understanding of HIPAA, confidentiality standards, and 42 CFR regulations
โ€ข Experience with Medicaid, Medicare, insurance verification, or medical billing practices
โ€ข Strong communication and customer service skills
โ€ข Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy
โ€ข Experience reviewing documentation and identifying discrepancies
โ€ข Strong computer, data entry, and organizational skills
