Pharmacy Account Director - Commercial Employer Group

Field: This field-based role enables associates to primarilyoperatein the field, traveling to client sites or designated locations as their role requires, with occasional office attendance for meetings or training. This approach ensures flexibility, responsiveness to client needs, and direct, hands-on engagement.

This position will require travel up to 50% travel across Central Time Zones.

The Pharmacy Account Director serves as a strategic clinical consultant for commercial employer group clients, providing pharmacy benefit expertise, utilization management insights, and recommendations to improve plan performance and manage pharmacy trend. This director partners closely with account management, sales, clients, consultants, and brokers to deliver consultative pharmacy solutions, support client retention and growth objectives, and strengthen client relationships through clinical leadership and industry expertise.

How You Will Make an Impact

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the primary clinical pharmacy consultant for assigned commercial employer group clients, providing strategic guidance on pharmacy benefit performance, utilization trends, emerging therapies, and cost-management opportunities.

  • Partner closely with account management, sales, consultants, and brokers to support client relationships, deliver pharmacy benefit insights, and communicate the value of PBM programs and clinical solutions.

  • Develop and deliver client-facing presentations, annual reviews, pharmacy trend updates, and strategic recommendations to employer groups, consultants, and broker partners.

  • Provide ongoing clinical support to regional decision makers and support PBM field sales teams during RFP processes, finalist presentations, and client consultations.

  • Analyze pharmacy utilization data and assist in the development of recommendations for outcomes-based savings opportunities, trend management strategies, and clinical program enhancements.

  • Collaborate with internal business partners to evaluate and support therapeutic programs, utilization management initiatives, and pharmacy solutions that improve client outcomes and financial performance.

  • Respond to client and internal stakeholder inquiries regarding pharmacy benefits, formulary strategy, specialty pharmacy management, and clinical program performance.

  • Support internal health plan penetration, retention, and growth objectives through strong consultative relationships and clinical expertise.

Minimum Requirements:

Requires a BA/BS and a minimum of 5 years of related experience; or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, & Experiences:

  • Active Pharmacy License is strongly preferred.

  • Prior experience working at a PBM and/or as a pharmacy benefit consultant preferred.

  • Experience working with brokers or consultants preferred.

  • Prior client facing experience preferred.

  • Experience working within the Commercial space preferred..

  • Strong leadership/managerial skills and ability to motivate/coach other staff strongly preferred.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, problem solving skills, attention to detail and well organized preferred.

  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, and attention to detail skills preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and other business productivity tools used to analyze data and deliver client presentations preferred.

For URAC accredited areas, the following professional competencies apply: Associates in this role are expected to have strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, problem-solving skills, facilitation skills, and analytical skills.

For candidates working in person or virtually in the below location(s), the salary* range for this specific position is $156,816.00 to $235,224.00.
