POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for the planning,organizing, developing, implementing, facilitating and evaluation all Nursing/Clinical education programs throughout the facility, in accordance withCoalinga Regional Medical Center's policies, current applicable federal, state,local standards, guidelines and regulations to assure that the highest degreeof quality patient/resident care can be maintained at all times. This positionprovides clinical education and evaluation to nursing and other patient carestaff, and facilitates evidenced-based research within a specialized area ofnursing. Directly reports to the CNO, ACNO, DON for all coordination ofdiscipline services and/or any education & development specific orcorporate functions processes or initiatives. The Clinical Nurse Educatorprovides education and training as well as support and guidance to ensure thatall staff can meet their specific job requirements.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

RecommendedMinimum Position Qualifications

Professional Experience and Education:

3 + years nursing supervision

Educator in nursing practices

Registered Nurse and a graduate of an accreditedSchool of Nursing

BSN preferred

Certification/Licensure:

Active licensed Registered Nurse in assigned state(s)of employment

BLS upon hire and ACLS certification within 60days of hire.

Holds membership in professional education andnursing associations - desirable

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Thorough knowledge and understanding of clinicalprotocol, procedures, and standards within area of nursing expertise.

Ability to provide operational guidance andleadership to technical staff in area of specialty.

Knowledge of related accreditation andcertification requirements.

Working knowledge of the use of establishedclinical and preceptorship models in the development of clinical educationprograms.

Technical leadership skills within area ofexpertise.

Advanced nursing skills in area of specialty.

Ability to plan, implement, and evaluateindividual patient care programs.

Highly developed verbal and writtencommunication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and largegroups.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to workeffectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.


JOB DUTIES:

1. Provideseducational leadership to patients and care providers to enhance specializedpatient care within established clinical protocols.

2. Understandsand applies OBRA Regulations.

3. Understandsand applies principles of adult learning.

4. Worksin collaboration with all department directors in the orientation and educationof staff to ensure all mandatory and regulatory education requirements are metwithin the facility.

5. Conductscompetencies in areas of nursing practice with attention to management of themedically complex patient, i.e. cardiac, heart failure, stroke, respiratorycare needs (such as tract, vent, i.e.).

6. Regularlyconducts education needs assessment for facilities to assist in identifyingareas for improvement.

7. Assumethe authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the in-serviceeducational programs as required or directed for compliance with Federal, OSHA,State and Accreditation Regulations and company policy.

8. EnsureIntegrity of educational programs offered within the facility by:

Preparations,scheduling and selection of instructional material, equipment and trainingaids, to ensure that a state of art, meaningful in-service program is providedutilizing the corporate approved forms and documentation.

Scheduleand communicates in-service training programs according to the needs offacility.

Ensuresthat required serviceable equipment and knowledgeable operator are available topresent special in-service material as directed.

Conductsregular scheduled meetings and education to all staff within the facility.

Ensuresthat in-service training classrooms or areas are properly prepared beforetraining classes begin.

Recommendto the administrator the equipment and supply needs of the department.

Assessthe learning needs of the staff through direct observation, formal learningassessment and indirectly through review of quality improvement and or programevaluation.

Maintainsattendance and documentation of in-services in accordance with regulatoryguidelines and corporate policies.

Assistlicensed/certified nursing personnel (i.e., RNs and CNA) in obtaining in-service training to keep their license/certification current in accordance withstate law and corporate policy.

9. Obtaincertification as a CPR instructor for the American Heart Association andprovide CPR certification for designated employee.

Maintainsa productive working relationship with the medical professionals and otherhealth related facilities and organizations.

Createsand maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis,as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.

Promotesthe morale of all personnel and maintain a spirit of cooperation.

Assistsin setting standards for department personnel.

Remaincurrent on new developments by attending professional institutions, readingprofessional journals and attending professional seminars.

Attendand participate in professional associations' activities and programs, toassure that you keep abreast of current regulations and guidelines, as well asprofessional standards, and make recommendations on changes in policies andprocedures.
