Job description

Overview

The Clinical Care Associate provides nursing assistance and patient care for the comfort, safety and personal needs of patients.  Assists patients with activities of daily living and performs procedures for physical hygiene and comfort of patients.  Performs duties within the construct of a unitbased, selfdirected, multidisciplinary patient care team while sharing various tasks with other licensed and nonlicensed members. Performs general clerical and reception duties according to needs of patient unit or department. Position is characterized by preparing and maintaining patient charts, transcribing physician orders, and entering information into computerized patient care system.

Responsibilities
  • Performs daily care activities including bathing, personal hygiene, feeding, and dressing patients.
  • Obtains and records vital signs, intake and output amounts, or other measures as designated, collects and tests blood and urine specimens as required and observes patient's condition and reports abnormal symptoms, unusual conditions or adverse reactions to nurse.
  • Assists patients with position changes, range of motion exercises, standing and walking.
  • Assists physicians and nurses with physical examination and treatments and performs surgical preps and simple dressing changes. Inserts and removes foley catheters as directed.
  • Provides additional therapies, procedures and treatments, which may include but is not limited to physical, EKG, phlebotomy and physical therapy procedures.
  • Transports patients, equipment, specimens, blood, etc., throughout hospital as required.
  • Maintains patient medical records; obtains information necessary to initiate routine admission procedures as required.
  • Assembles patient charts for new admissions. Enters physician orders for tests, procedures, etc. into computer system.  Transcribes medical orders, prints lab reports from Sunquest computer.
  • Maintains a clean, neat and safe environment. Activities may include but are not limited to tidying room, cleaning equipment, changing bed linens, restocking work areas, keeping rooms and hallways clear of debris, emptying trash, defrosting refrigerators, cleaning cabinet surfaces, and completing discharge room cleans.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injuries to Manager.
  • Assists in the ongoing development and administration of hospital and department Quality Improvement program.

  • Certified Nursing Assistant on the Georgia Registry
  • OR

    Certified Medical Assistant awarded by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)

    OR

    Registered Medical Assistant awarded by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)

    OR

    Certified Clinical Medical Assistant awarded by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)

  • Must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • One (1) year of patient care experience, as a CNA, PCT, Military Medic, ED Tech or other relevant acute, direct patient care experience.
  • Visual color acuity depending on the role in specific units.
