Description
Participate as a full-time faculty member in the Departmental and Medical School activities as a Clinical Teacher. The incumbent has a major commitment to the education in the form of scholarly activities related to education, leadership, administration, and promotion of excellence in clinical care.

The SIU Department of Internal Medicine is committed to delivering the highest quality of medical education across the learning continuum (e.g., medical school/residency/fellowship/continuing education and faculty development).
1. Teach, mentor, and supervise individual students/residents/fellows, if applicable, during inpatient and outpatient consultations and follow up visits.
2. Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, conferences, and rounds for students and residents taking the Hematology/Oncology elective, along with other learners in the Department of Internal Medicine and other departments. This also includes hospitals in communities of Central and Southern Illinois.
3. Provide periodic seminars/educational sessions for the division.
4. Prepare conferences for the Department of Internal Medicine

As defined by the individual interest and in compliance with department policy.
Service 70%
    1. Professional Services

  1. Complete inpatient and outpatient consultations by full-time SIU clinical faculty, house staff and community physicians.

  1. Develop and maintain professional practice in accordance with departmental policy.

  1. A clinical full-time (CFTE) of 77.5% which includes 7.5% clinical teaching. Based on the most recent three-year rolling average of the academic MGMA 60th percentile benchmark and CFTE, achieve a minimum target of 4,385 RVUs per year (5,658 RVUs = 1.0 CFTE) once you come off the guarantee.

Specific clinical duties include:
  • Staffing the inpatient service equally between physician faculty including on-call accompanied by fellow and resident coverage.
  • Sub-specialty: All malignancies and malignant and benign hematology

  1. Participate in University, SIU HC and hospital committees as requested.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  1. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
  2. Graduate of accredited medical school program.
  3. Graduate of formal specialty training program in Hematology and Medical Oncology.
  4. Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine or eligibility for ABIM.
  5. Diplomate of the American Board of Hematology or eligibility for Hematology board.
  6. Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Oncology or eligibility for Medical Oncology board.
  7. Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois or licensed by the State of Illinois prior to employment.
  8. Experience providing services to multicultural populations.

Desirable Qualifications
Experience working in an academic environment, both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Supplemental Information
The budgeted annual salary range is $350,000 to $385,000, representing the academic base salary only, which is funded through the University. The final academic base salary will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget considerations. Additional clinical compensation will be provided separately through a member practice agreement.
