General Internal Medicine Hospitalist and Consultative Medicine Open Positions AY 2026-27
The Hospital Medicine Program, part of the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) and the Department of Medicine, is currently accepting online applications. GIM will review candidate applications for positions on the Hospital Medicine Service and Medicine Consult Service. Candidates may be considered at individual or multiple sections of GIM-Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center (Montlake and Northwest Campuses), and VA Puget Sound Health Care System. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. These positions will hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Clinical faculty track appointments are not eligible for tenure.

Harborview Medical Center (HMC)
The Hospital Medicine Program at HMC offers daytime and/or night-time positions. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to providing high value care to the patients of HMC in the spirit of service to our community's most vulnerable populations with a special dedication to improving health systems, medical education and scholarship.
Daytime hospitalists will have the opportunity to work on a variety of clinical services ranging from primary medicine services, consultative medicine and perioperative medicine services, with opportunities to interact with students and residents from a variety of departments.
Nighttime hospitalists will work with a team of residents and students to provide nighttime coverage for the hospitalist teams and ensure critical attending coverage during the evening.

University of Washington Medical Center Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake)
The Hospital Medicine Program at UWMC-Montlake consists of the Hospital Medicine Service, Medicine Consult Service, and Oncology Medicine Service. These services offer daytime and/or nighttime positions. Successful applicants will demonstrate excellence in clinical care and a commitment to academic medicine with an interest in teaching, quality improvement work or research.
Duties on the Hospital Medicine Service include patient care and teaching on the general medicine wards. Duties on the Medicine Consult Service include patient care, perioperative medical consultation and teaching in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Duties on the Oncology Medicine Service include patient care for hospitalized patients with cancer. Most providers will have blended roles, spending time on a variety of service offerings.

University of Washington Medical Center - Northwest Campus (UWMC-Northwest)
The Hospital Medicine Program at UWMC-Northwest offers daytime and/or nighttime positions for internists seeking to practice at a community hospital within an academic system. Successful applicants will demonstrate excellence in patient care, willingness to contribute to quality improvement, dedication to teamwork, and commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration.
Hospitalists at UWMC-Northwest provide inpatient care for a broad scope of patients in consulting and attending roles. While UWMC-Northwest campus is primarily focused on the clinical care of patients, it does offer teaching opportunities as well.
A separate position is that of the Night ICU Hospitalist. Physicians in this role will work 9-hour overnight shifts primarily admitting to and covering patients in the intensive care and step-down units. Applicants will be expected to perform procedures including central line placement and paracentesis, but would not be asked to intubate. Additional training in these procedures would be available if needed. Successful applicants should have an interest in cultivating critical care skills, but will have access to a pulmonary and critical care specialist for additional support.

VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS)
The VA Puget Sound Health Care System proudly serves more than 112,000 Veterans living in the Pacific Northwest and is the main referral center for VA Northwest Health Network, also called VISN20 (encompassing Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington). We are dedicated to excellence in the clinical care of Veterans, medical education, and research.
In addition to caring for hospitalized patients, we also perform inpatient medicine consultation and staff a preoperative medical consult clinic for medically complex patients. We have a strong affiliation with the University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine and enjoy teaching medical students and residents. We are actively engaged in hospital operations and are steadily growing our scholarship portfolio with particular interest in medical education and quality/process improvement.

Position
The University of Washington (UW), Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine is recruiting for up to seven open positions at the Clinical Instructor, Clinical Assistant Professor, or Clinical Associate Professor level. Specific rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Anticipated start date will be July 1, 2026; specific start date is negotiable. Select positions available immediately.
Compensation
Compensation for UW Hospitalists is broken into multiple components as described below. Total guaranteed annual compensation ranges from $235,008 - $315,000, depending upon rank and day/night split.
Salary
For HMC, UWMC-Montlake, UWMC-Northwest:
The base salary range for this position will be: $14,334 - $20,417 per month ($172,008 - $245,004 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice planmay provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
For VAPSHCS:
This position is paid directly by the VA Puget Sound Health Care System and receives no UW compensation. Please refer to VAPSHCS for information about compensation for this position.
Other Compensation
Other compensation associated with this position will include a pay supplement (CCO) of $3,084 -$7,084 per month ($37,008 - $85,008 annually) for work on the hospital medicine service. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan.

Qualifications
Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and board certification* in Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent). Applicants must hold or be eligible for Washington State Medical License.
*Note: Board certification in Internal Medicine must be completed within two years after residency.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Only full-time positions (100% FTE) are eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship. University sponsorship is not possible for a J-1 visa or employer based permanent residence sponsorship in the clinical faculty track.
For VAPSHCS applicants: Applicants must be U.S. Citizens (permanent residents may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).

There are two faculty track options: Clinical (FTCF) or Professor of Clinical Practice (CP). Those interested in providing excellent clinical care, traditional ward teaching with residents, and have interest in pursuing projects in QI, EDI, mentorship, scholarship and/or leadership, please apply via the CP Interfolio link.
