What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Clinical AI Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Clinical AI Specialist, you need a strong background in healthcare, data science, and machine learning, typically supported by degrees in computer science or biomedical engineering and relevant healthcare experience. Familiarity with programming languages like Python, healthcare data standards (such as HL7 or FHIR), and AI platforms is crucial, along with certifications in AI or clinical informatics. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help bridge the gap between technical teams and clinical stakeholders. These skills are vital to ensure that AI solutions are effectively designed, accurately implemented, and safely integrated into clinical workflows to improve patient outcomes.

How does a Clinical AI professional typically collaborate with healthcare providers and data scientists on projects?

Clinical AI professionals often serve as a bridge between healthcare providers and technical teams, working closely with clinicians to understand medical workflows and identify areas where AI can enhance patient care. They collaborate with data scientists to translate clinical requirements into technical specifications and validate AI models for clinical accuracy and safety. Regular interdisciplinary meetings, joint problem-solving sessions, and shared project management tools are common in this environment, facilitating effective communication and alignment on project goals.

What is a Clinical AI professional?

A Clinical AI professional is someone who applies artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to healthcare settings, particularly to improve clinical decision-making, diagnostics, and patient outcomes. These professionals work at the intersection of technology, medicine, and data science, developing algorithms that can analyze medical data and assist clinicians. Their work may involve tasks such as building predictive models, automating image analysis, or supporting personalized medicine initiatives. Clinical AI professionals typically collaborate with healthcare providers, researchers, and technologists to ensure that AI tools are safe, effective, and aligned with clinical needs.

Job description

TRC Talent Solutions is partnering with a nationally recognized, rapidly expanding healthcare organization undergoing a major enterprise AI transformation initiative. Backed directly by executive leadership, the organization is aggressively deploying practical AI solutions designed to improve operational throughput, reduce clinician burnout, and streamline patient workflows across the enterprise.

This is not a research-focused environment centered around theoretical AI experimentation. The organization is seeking execution-focused builders capable of deploying real-world solutions that immediately impact operational efficiency and user experience.

As a Forward Deployed AI Engineer (FDE), you will operate at the intersection of software engineering, workflow optimization, and human-centered problem solving. This role will embed directly with clinical and operational teams to identify real-world friction points and rapidly transform them into scalable, production-ready AI workflows powered by enterprise LLM technologies.

About the Role

This role serves as the front line of enterprise AI deployment initiatives. You will work directly alongside clinicians, patient access teams, operational leadership, and executive stakeholders to deploy AI-enabled workflows that improve efficiency across scheduling, documentation, patient access, and revenue cycle operations.

The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering capability with consultative communication skills and a highly autonomous builder mentality.

Responsibilities
  • Embed directly with clinical and operational teams to observe workflows and identify automation opportunities

  • Design and deploy Claude-powered AI workflows supporting patient access, scheduling optimization, and revenue cycle acceleration

  • Develop secure clinical documentation assistants and operational copilots that improve provider efficiency and reduce administrative burden

  • Integrate AI workflows with existing healthcare systems, APIs, and operational platforms

  • Ensure deployed solutions meet security, compliance, and operational reliability standards

  • Continuously refine AI workflows using human-in-the-loop feedback, workflow telemetry, and pilot adoption metrics

  • Partner closely with executive leadership to prioritize high-impact operational automation initiatives

  • Translate non-technical clinical and operational pain points into scalable software solutions

  • Support pilot deployments and user adoption efforts across clinic environments as needed

Requirements
  • Strong software engineering background with hands-on experience building AI-enabled applications, backend systems, or full-stack platforms

  • Proven expertise with Python development and API integrations

  • Experience with LLM orchestration platforms such as Claude, OpenAI, or similar enterprise AI technologies

  • Strong understanding of prompt engineering and AI-assisted operational tooling

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Ability to operate independently within fast-moving, highly ambiguous environments

  • Demonstrated execution-oriented mindset with a strong builder mentality

  • Willingness to travel occasionally to clinic or pilot locations as needed

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, protected veteran status, disability status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law.
