The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
The Counsel role is responsible for providing a broad range of cost-effective, high quality legal services in the area of employment law, including management of arbitration, litigation and administrative charges and dispute resolution. The Counsel position handles moderately complex employment law matters to support Human Resources, management and business initiatives.
Travelers offers a hybrid work location model that is designated to support flexibility.What Will You Do?
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to internal stakeholders on all aspects of employment law including hiring, performance management, employment policies and practices, leave of absence, accommodations, termination, wage and hour, contingent workforce issues, training, restrictive covenants, employment arbitration and litigation, administrative charges and other employment related matters.
  • Represent the company in and advise internal stakeholders regarding arbitration, litigation, administrative charges and internal investigations, including drafting responses to administrative charges and oversight and management of external counsel.
  • Draft and negotiate employment-related agreements.
  • Participate in employment related projects and in the development and delivery of training on employment law topics.
  • Proactively partner with the HR team to develop employment policies and practices that mitigate risk and maintain compliance with employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintain awareness of external judicial and regulatory climate and legal developments in employment law and provide advice and counsel to address them.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal clients and other staff across the legal department.
  • Make effective use of technology and automation in the practice of law, including artificial intelligence.
  • This role acts as an individual contributor and does not lead others.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Minimum of 5 years of prior employment law experience in a large firm and/or in-house preferred.
  • Occasional travel required
What is a Must Have?
  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent International legal degree; graduate of an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 3 years of prior legal experience.
  • Active license to practice law in the state(s) in which representation is required.
