Description:

This internship is unpaid and designed to support students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in the field. Candidates may be eligible to earn academic credit through their college or university.

EEA's Energy Team is seeking an Energy Policy Intern for the fall!  The internship will primarily involve supporting two important initiatives of the team: the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Coordinating Council and the development of a guide for municipal governments on best practices for data center development planning. The intern will also develop communications materials to help educate the public on state energy policy programs and support the team with administrative tasks.

Through this internship, the intern will gain experience in state energy policy, clean energy planning, policy research, stakeholder engagement, administration, and public communications while developing a deeper understanding of how state government advances and implements clean energy initiatives. We are happy to work with students who would like to pursue research funding opportunities they have identified from their universities for this position.

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Support the operations of EVICC and the development of the Third EVICC Assessment, including writing meeting notes, helping to run webinars, organizing documents, and completing research on electric vehicle topics.

• Support the development of a guide for municipal governments on best practices for data center development planning.

• Development of communications materials to summarize policy efforts and communicate to stakeholders and the public, including on interconnection, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and the recent siting and permitting reforms for clean energy infrastructure.

• Compiling news clips related to the energy sector.

• Updating and improving the Energy Team's webpages.

• Administrative support including notetaking, completing travel documentation, and collaborating to improve organizational systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Interest in energy policy, environmental policy, climate, or sustainability.

• Good interpersonal communication skills.

• Excellent research, analytical, and organizational skills.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

• Interest in public service and working with diverse stakeholders.

• Experience or coursework in public policy, environmental studies, political science, engineering, economics, or a related field preferred.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Other relevant information:  

• Hours per week: 22.5 hours per week
• This position is partially remote with a hybrid schedule that includes a minimum of one day in-office per week
• Internship duration:  9/21/26 - 12/1/26
