Climate Pledge Arena, located at Seattle Center, is the complete redevelopment of an historic landmark, originally built for the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. The arena is home to the NHL's Seattle Kraken, WNBA's Seattle Storm, PWHL Seattle and the world's biggest performers of live music and events. The arena is named after The Climate Pledge, an initiative founded by Amazon and Global Optimism asking global corporations to become net zero carbon by 2040. Climate Pledge Arena has one of the most progressive sustainability programs of any building its size, including being the world's first Zero Carbon Certified arena. Position Summary:
Climate Pledge Arena's (CPA) Risk and Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining an effective and innovative safety program, with the objective of securing safety, minimizing risk, and protecting the arena and its employees and guests. The Risk and Safety Specialist will ensure compliance with all legislative and OSHA requirements, including creating and implementing safety programs, training, program compliance, and oversight. The Risk and Safety Specialist will provide safety leadership to management, supervise adherence to corporate safety programs, and ensure compliance with the company safety philosophy and industry best practices. The Safety and Risk Specialist will ensure that the organization meets its obligations to prevent, reduce and mitigate risk exposures and losses to protect the insurability of the organization.
This role reports to CPA's Sr. Manager of People and Culture (PAC) and will collaborate closely with CPA Legal, Operations, as well as our external Risk Management and Claims team.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Develop, recommend, implement, and ensure compliance with recognized best safety practices to create a safe working environment.
  • Analyze and evaluate work functions to develop safety, environmental and ergonomic policies to ensure worker health and safety.
  • Plan, facilitate, and track employee training and educational programs on best safety practices.
  • Manage CPA safety committee and direct the activities of the safety committee relating to safety policy and program implementation.
  • Track and investigate Workers Compensation claims to determine cause of loss or injury, identify contributing factors, prepare "after-action" reports and develop corrective action plans to prevent future occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Ensure that public safety programs create a safe and enjoyable environment for guests at CPA.
  • Coordinate with arena partners to ensure compliance with arena safety protocols.
  • Serve as liaison between arena operations and management teams and government agencies, in case of inspections concerning safety, environmental or ergonomic issues.
  • Manage and direct industrial hygiene issues, including hazardous materials programs, monitoring of hazards including noise and chemical exposure, and work to minimize exposure.
  • Review vendor contracts, agreements and proposals to ensure compliance with company safety policies and applicable insurance and regulatory requirements.
  • Collect, manage and verify certificates of insurance from third-party vendors, partners and clients, as required by company contracts and risk management policies.
  • Handle routine and non-complex claims; support company General Counsel on litigation management issues.

Preferred skills and qualifications:
  • Certification as a Qualified Risk Management Professional (CRMP)
  • Solid understanding of current safety regulations (local, state and federal), policies, and programs
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, summarize, and present safety data
  • Must be able to develop strong working relationships with stakeholders across the various entities
  • High degree of initiative and ability to work well with minimal oversight
  • CFPS or familiarity with NFPA and ANSI codes and standards
  • Knowledge of sports and entertainment venue and team business operations
  • Analytical, problem-solving and communication skills

Compensation:
  • In accordance with the Washington State Equal Pay and Opportunity Act, the expected base pay range for this position is $34.00 - $38.00 hourly. Actual base pay will depend on employee's experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
  • This role is classified as full-time, non-exempt.
