We are partnering with a long-established electrical and mechanical contractor with over a century of experience delivering high-quality construction services across commercial and residential markets. This role blends business development and project execution, offering the opportunity to acquire new work while also leading projects from preconstruction through closeout. The Role

The Project Manager / Business Development Lead is responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities while overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of assigned projects. Success in this role means developing trusted client relationships, producing accurate estimates and schedules, managing costs and quality, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and to client expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and secure new business through client relationship building, presentations, and proposal support
  • Review and understand project plans, specifications, and contractual documents
  • Prepare project estimates, budgets, schedules, and support contract negotiations
  • Lead projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring cost, quality, and safety objectives are met
  • Coordinate with architects and engineers to resolve design-related construction issues
  • Manage shop drawing reviews and approvals
  • Communicate proactively with clients regarding project status, risks, and cost impacts
  • Negotiate change orders and fee adjustments as required
  • Plan and coordinate labor, equipment, tools, and material needs
  • Oversee procurement of equipment and standardized materials
  • Manage administrative contract functions including billing, cost tracking, time coding, expenses, and collections
  • Maintain strong relationships with field leadership and labor partners
  • Participate in industry, client, and community events to strengthen customer relationships
  • Complete project closeout including punch lists, as-built documentation, and O&M manuals
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and special projects as needed

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or completion of a construction apprenticeship preferred
  • 3–5 years of experience in construction project management or related roles
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Comfortable leading teams and coordinating with field supervision
  • Proven ability to manage and track project budgets and schedules

Nice to Have

  • Experience in electrical, mechanical, or building systems construction
  • Prior involvement in business development or client-facing roles
  • Familiarity with union environments and labor agreements

Location & Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based with frequent jobsite visits
  • Field work in varying weather conditions
  • Requires ability to navigate active construction sites, including climbing ladders and stairs
  • Regional travel as needed to support projects and client relationships
Location: Midwest-based with regional travel, Wauwatosa.
