What You'll Do

As a key member of our bridge engineering team, you will:

  • Serve as a Technical Lead and/or Project Manager on a diverse portfolio of bridge and transportation projects
  • Lead projects from planning and design through construction support and closeout, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget goals are met
  • Act as a primary client-facing representative, leading meetings and coordinating with agencies and public stakeholders
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, and technical specifications
  • Collaborate closely with the team to resolve technical and project-related challenges
  • Mentor, manage, and develop engineers and technicians, helping build the next generation of leaders
  • Review and approve plans, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and permitting requirements
  • Take an active role in business development, proposals, and technical write-ups
  • Help shape project delivery strategies and contribute to continuous improvement within the practice

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in structural design for highway bridges
  • Strong background in highway, pedestrian bridge structures and retaining walls
  • Experience with structural analysis and bridge design software
  • Familiarity with VDOT standards, processes, and project delivery
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with AASHTO LRFD, AREMA, and related structural design codes
  • Design experience across multiple bridge types in concrete and steel, including staged construction analysis
  • Prior experience working directly with VDOT or Virginia localities
  • Strong capabilities in structural analysis, load rating, and multidisciplinary coordination
  • NBIS certification and bridge inspection experience (a plus, not required)
  • Proficiency with MicroStation and OpenBridge Designer
