Job description

EXEMPLARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Interact with guests, visitors, family members and outside providers in a professional and welcoming manner always acknowledging their presence.
  • Must be able to maintain a flexible and cohesive relationship with clients, co-workers, and the public while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Never share personal information, social media information, or anything that may allow a client to identify you or any staff member. Report all attempts to obtain such information to your supervisor and include it in the end of shift report.
  • Immediately report any change noted in client behavior or physical condition to the charge nurse.
  • Follow the VBHCS in house crisis response plan in case of emergency psychiatric emergency (i.e., suicidal/homicidal ideation or threats) with the direction of supervisor.
  • Attend meetings and trainings in-house, electronic, virtual, etc. as directed by supervisor.

Assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery using one-to-one and group sessions. During these sessions the CPRS will support clients in identifying and creating goals and developing recovery plans with the skills, strengths, supports and resources to aid them in achieving those goals. Groups will be psychoeducational focused on addiction and recovery topics including relapse prevention and triggers utilizing a co-occurring disorders focus.
Assist clients in working with their treatment team in determining the steps he/she needs to take to achieve these goals and self-directed recovery.
Assist clients in setting up and sustaining self-help (mutual support) groups, as well as means of locating and joining existing groups.
CPRS will share their own life experiences and what skills, strengths, supports and resources they use to continue their recovery journey speaking as peers who have availed themselves to addiction and/or mental health services.
Serve as a recovery mentor by providing and advocating for any effective recovery-based services that will aid the client in daily living.
Provide timely and professional documentation to support each client interaction and coordination of services per the documentation guidelines of VBHCS.
Assist clients in building social skills in the community that will enhance employment skills, resume, and job searches when needed.
Participate in continuing education activities, remaining knowledgeable in areas related to the focus of the integrated program.
Conduct client property searches, obtain vital signs, breathalyzer, and Urine Drug Screen (UDS) as directed by nurses or supervisor as needed. Follow agency protocol for a presumptive positive screen.
Facilitate new client orientation and tour upon admission as directed by nurses or supervisor.
Be available to clients for immediate concerns or needs and direct to appropriate staff.
Provides follow-up phone contact for clients upon discharge to ensure discharge plan is working and to assist client in developing alternatives, if necessary, per CCBHC guidelines.
Cross-trains as a client assistant (CA) to be able to assist in CA tasks if needed.
Complete incident reports when incidents occur.
Develop relationships with our community partners and resources to help clients in residential and MAT programs obtain the necessary supports to engage in recovery per CCBHC Guidelines.
Assist with NOMS collection as needed.
Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience working in the community setting with adults who have alcohol and drug treatment issues or co-occurring mental health problems preferred. Can provide documentation of currently active CPRS certification or agrees to complete certification within 6 months of hire date.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma or GED required. Associate degree or some college preferred
  • Peer Recovery Specialist certification through TDMHSAS or must be working toward CPRS and obtain phase 1 certification within first year of employment
  • 1-year minimum experience working with target population preferred
  • Acceptable criminal background investigation
  • Possess proficient computer skills Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Valid Tennessee Driver's License with F Endorsement, good driving record
  • Personal Automobile Insurance
  • CPR certified or willingness to obtain certification as provided by VBHCS.
