Job description

  • Expected pay for this position is $17.87-$27.45. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. 
  • Job Summary
    • Under the direct supervision of the Leader of Pharmacy or the Registered Pharmacist – and according to the standard procedures – compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving medication orders from physicians or other qualified prescribers; dispenses Potassium Chloride solutions; mixes I.V. additive solutions as required using aseptic technique with the laminar air flow hood; and performs various other related duties.
  • Job Specifications
    • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
      • High School Diploma or GED (per state requirements)
      • Pharmacy Technician license/certification/registration (per state requirements)
      • National Certification preferred (PTCB or ExCPT)
      • APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization Administration by Pharmacy Tehcnicians certification preferred

      JOB KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of hospital and pharmacy procedures and medical terminology helpful.

      ABILITIES, INTERESTS AND TEMPERAMENTS
      • Clerical perception required to note pertinent data in written medication requests; to observe differences in names of closely related pharmaceuticals; to avoid perceptual errors in typing labels and recording charges to patients.
      • Finger dexterity is required to handle forms and labels and to operate a computer and typewriter.
      • A preference for routine and organized activities involving well-defined and established procedures.
      • Ability to perform short-cycle and repetitive activities such as performing batches. Ability to be precise in accurately entering data in computer.
      • Numerical ability is required to be able to perform Inventory Count and batch information quickly and accurately.
      • Near visual acuity is required to perceive pertinent details on work orders, in setting up machines, or printed labels, and compiling records.
      • Adaptive to working under direct supervision.
      • Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).
