Akron General's Operating Room (OR) department has a team of dedicated caregivers that work collaboratively to provide the best possible care for their surgical patients.These caregivers are eager and excited to add a Surgical Services Attendant to their team. In this role, you will usea variety of technical skills toassistthe Operating Room team as requested before and after surgical cases. You willmaintainand control support service equipment and supplies as well as the OR environment in an aesthetically safe and sanitary condition.

A caregiver in this position works days from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. No weekends. The start/end time may vary based on the needs of the department.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Assist with OR turnovers in between cases including but not limited to removing debris from OR floors, mopping floors, removing debris from floor, wiping down flat surfaces,equipmentand furniture, cleaning surgical lights and removing trash from the OR including chemotherapy or radioactive waste.

• Provide assigned care and other general care throughout the shift toassurepatient'sphysical comfort.

• Turn, lift, hold, position, and transfer patients.

• Remove fluids from the back table with the Neptune suction unit.

• Take soiled case carts todecontaminationand properly dispose of trash, disposable instruments, sharpitemsand hazardous waste.

• Remove soiled laundry from the Operating Room and take the linen bags todecontamination.

• Place the back table in original position and strip and remake the Operating Room table.

• Mop floors, change trash, clean scrubsinksand spot clean walls.

• Dust ceiling vents, TV's, light fixtures, doors, walls, storageracksand any flat surfaces in the Operating Room tomaintainsurvey readiness.

• Spot clean assigned cabinets, walls, counters, equipment,bedsordeskwithin the Operating Room.

• Clean andmaintainequipment, vacuums, cleaningcart,bucketsand wringers.

• Report malfunctioning equipment, unsafeconditionsand broken items to immediate supervisor.

• Transport surgical furniture and equipment, chart materials, bloodproductsand patients.

• Comply withspecial cleaning requests for radioactive, chemotherapy and infectioncontrolsurgical cases.

• Perform daily clean up and general duties in the hallways, quads and control desk area including restrooms area.

• Maintain daily stockinislands.
• Communicate to the Nurse Manager any supply and ordering needs, before leaving and when returning to the patient care area.
• Recognize and perform duties which need to be performed, although not directly assigned.
• Participate in staff meetings and attend in-service education programs as assigned; completes yearly mandatory competencies

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required within new hire period

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• One year of housekeeping experience

• OR experience

• Patient care experience

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of body motion including ability to lift and/or bear the weight of 100 pounds with assistance, or more while pulling, lifting, pushing and transferring patients to and from various apparatus; regularly pushes moderate to heavy weight of 100 pounds or more.
• Exposure to body fluids.
• Must be available for flexible scheduling according to the needs of the surgical area.
• Floating may be expected per assignment policies within the surgical support department.
• Ability to stand for long period of time

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
