POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing a variety of labor for maintenance and repair of the parks and recreation system for Harvey County.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all–inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned.

  • Participate in groundskeeping duties including mowing & trimming, string trimmer use, herbicide application, and watering.
  • Use proper PPE and procedures when trimming trees, using chemicals, and operating machinery, including mowers, trimmers, and power tools.
  • Inspect playgrounds, picnic tables, docks, and other structures open to the public to ensure public safety.
  • Safely operate Parks vehicles and equipment as required to complete job duties.
  • Collect and dispose of trash and ensure Parks property is free of litter.
  • Clean buildings, restrooms, and other areas open to the public, as well as rental facilities.
  • Respectfully interact with Parks customers to provide information and take questions or complaints.
  • Assist Parks customers if possible and/or report issues to Operations Supervisor or Park Director.
  • Assist with special events setup, operation, and break down as required
  • Assist Park Rangers with maintenance and construction tasks as directed.
  • Observe Parks grounds, property, and park users to ensure safety and security.
  • Travel to other Parks properties to assist with tasks as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required and experience in the following fields: grounds maintenance, landscaping, custodial, or related field.
  • Must possess a current driver’s license.

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS

Works under general supervision on some assignments but works independently performing recurring duties in accordance with established procedures. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards (OSHA) and safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures of the County.
  • Knowledge of current office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer software consistent for this position.
  • Knowledge of construction, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical practices.
  • Knowledge on how to safely operate and maintain power tools and various pieces of heavy machinery.
  • Skill in maintaining safety practices and recognizing hazards in the workplace.
  • Skill in operating equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Skill to perform mathematical calculations required of this position.
  • Ability to perform manual labor in an outdoor environment and over uneven terrain.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles safely in all circumstances and weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits requiring minimal direction and supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate records of assigned activities and operations.
  • Ability to interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate records of assigned activities and operations.
