Position Overview

The Geriatrics & Extended Care Service at our healthcare system is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Geriatrics Board Certified Attending Physician for the role of Medical Director of the Community Living Center (CLC). This position offers an opportunity to serve our nation's veterans while enjoying an excellent work-life balance. The CLC provides nursing home-level care for veterans requiring short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing, long-term care, dementia care, or hospice services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver patient care directly or oversee CLC-assigned providers and medical trainees in both inpatient and outpatient environments.
  • Provide care for adults with acute and chronic medical conditions across a range of CLC services, including skilled nursing, long-term care, hospice/palliative care, pain management, and rehabilitation.
  • Evaluate and manage adults with single or multiple disorders across various subspecialties, focusing on geriatric medicine.
  • Collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Oversee the quality of medical care and treatment for the assigned veteran population.
Clinical Duties
  • Review patient histories, examinations, assessments, and care plans for CLC residents, coordinating evaluations, diagnostic testing, and clinical follow-ups.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Community Living Center team in caring for veterans.
  • Foster an environment of efficiency and accuracy in the timely submission of documentation.
  • Work alongside Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and other healthcare providers to facilitate hospital admissions, post-discharge care, and specialty consultations as needed.
  • Participate in the screening of veterans and complete consults for the CLC.
  • Engage in a call schedule for telephonic coverage for urgent veteran needs after administrative hours.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary team meetings and other clinical responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Chief of Staff for Geriatrics & Extended Care.
Compensation and Benefits

We offer a comprehensive total rewards package, including:

  • Recruitment Incentive: Sign-on bonus available.
  • Salary: Competitive pay, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases.
  • Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off annually (including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and up to 5 days for CME).
  • Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and a federal 401K with contributions up to 5% from the organization.
  • Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance (many plans can be carried into retirement).
  • Licensure: Must hold one full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory.
  • CME: Up to $1,000 reimbursement per year (must be full-time with board certification).
  • Malpractice: Liability protection with tail coverage provided at no cost.
  • Contract: No employment contract and minimal restrictions on moonlighting.
  • Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Eligible participants may receive up to $200,000 towards qualified loans over five years (not exceeding $40,000 per year).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Board Certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), American Board of Family Medicine, or Board Certified in Geriatric Medicine.
  • Experience in geriatrics or completion of a geriatric fellowship, with a passion for working in a multidisciplinary team.
