Founded by a former TikTok executive, Utopic aspires to be the next big name in kawaii culture. By building a gacha and cozy mobile game, we aim to popularize a new generation of cute characters for kawaii fans around the world.
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Gaming) who's excited by the opportunity to develop a live service mobile game at an ambitious startup. This is a full-time role with preference for candidates based in London or open to relocating. Join us to create a cultural phenomenon.
What you'll do:
- Design and develop games in Unity, collaborating closely with designers and artists
- Implement and optimize game features, systems, and user interfaces for mobile
- Write clean, efficient code and refactor frequently
- Debug and resolve technical issues, performance bottlenecks, and crashes
- Own our live service content pipeline (asset loading, addressables, asset bundles) to keep the client lightweight as our content library grows
- Maintain and optimize client-side systems for memory, performance, CPU, battery, and device diversity at mobile scale
- Champion quality through clean architecture, testing, debugging, code reviews, and version control workflows
What you'll bring:
- 5+ years of experience developing and shipping live service mobile games with Unity and C#
- Passion for anime/kawaii culture, gacha/cozy games, and toy collecting preferred
- Deep understanding of Unity's AssetBundle pipeline, scene loading, addressables, and lifecycle management for live-operated, content-heavy titles
- Solid grasp of performance, memory, and optimization techniques for Android/iOS environments
- Familiarity with server-side development, real-time systems, and ECS architecture
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work across cultures
