Early Childhood Family Education Program Assistant
Position Overview
The successful candidate will be an individual who firmly believes:
  • All students can and will learn, and that their learning can be directly influenced by focusing on factors over which we have control;

  • In meeting students' academic, social, and emotional needs and aspirations so that each student feels valued and has a sense of belonging, leading to academic success

Position Purpose
The ECFE program assistant will be responsible for setup, clean up, and maintenance of a safe classroom environment for parents and children. The position is also responsible for implementing all aspects of curriculum as assigned by the Child Educator and/or ECFE/SR Coordinator. This position is considered non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Primary Responsibilities
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
  • Follow directions of the child educator and assist where needed
  • Help with the age-appropriate classroom learning environment according to the child educator's request
  • Complete room preparation before and clean up after class
  • Keep accurate attendance records
  • Prepare and clean up daily snacks
  • Observe and assist the child educator during group time
  • Clean and disinfect supplies and toys as needed
  • Lead circle time, small groups or games if necessary
  • Prepare materials for projects or other activities as directed by the child educator
  • Interact with students as they arrive, throughout their learning day, and as they depart
  • Interact and play with children when needed
  • Set up and clean up all classroom activities as directed by the child educator
  • Assist child educators in keeping classroom supplies current and placing needed items on the shopping list
  • Attend staff meetings and special events as assigned
  • Assist in public relations and outreach services as needed
  • Follow discipline policy and all district program policies
  • Observe confidentiality
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the ECFE/SR Coordinator.

Preferences
We strongly prefer candidates who have exhibited excellence in collaboration with colleagues and an enthusiasm for working with students. Preferred candidates will also have experience working with young children and supervising group activities. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Knowledge of:
    • Child supervision
    • Setup and maintenance of a safe, welcoming learning environment
  • Ability to:
    • Interact and communicate effectively with both parents and children
    • Self-motivate and organize work
    • Work alone or in a group
    • Lift and move materials or equipment and hold children typically < 50 pounds
    • Walk 1 mile
    • Work in both indoor and outdoor settings
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must have earned a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional demonstrated qualifications include: creative planning and organizational skills, and highly effective interpersonal skills. Previous experience working with young children and supervising group activities preferred.
Licensing Requirements
Current CPR and first aid certification required.
Salary and Benefits
The starting pay for this position is between $16.89 - $18.76 and is based on the Community Education pay scale. The initial placement is dependent on qualifications (education and years of relevant experience).
Benefits include personal days and Earned Safe an Sick Time, as applicable.
