Encova Insurance has an immediate opening for a Claims Business Analyst for our Columbus, Ohio corporate location. In this role, you will work a hybrid schedule and as such, the expectation is that you reside within a reasonable commute to our office.

We can hire at multiple seniority levels depending on candidate qualifications and the posted compensation range is inclusive of all levels.

As a Business Analyst II, you must have a minimum of two years of experience working with Guidewire ClaimCenter. Preferred qualifications include at least two years of commercial coverage experience, two years of claims business process experience, and attainment of the Guidewire Certified Associate certification.

As a Business Analyst III, you must have a minimum of three years of experience working with Guidewire ClaimCenter. Preferred qualifications include at least three years of commercial coverage experience, three years of claims business process experience, attainment of the Guidewire Certified Associate certification, and experience with Cloud Integration Framework implementations or support.

JOB OBJECTIVE:
To serve as a liaison between the business groups and IT, working closely with business partners to enable business success through IT solutions. The IT Business Analyst primary responsibility is to formulate and define requirements based on user needs and a good understanding of applicable business systems.
They also serve as key partners to the IT Quality Assurance team to ensure requirements are converted to effective test plans, and to System Analyst, Architects, Development Teams and Project Managers for decisions on the design of technology solutions to meet the business requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Business Requirement Documentation
  • Works with business representatives to define and document business problems.
  • Analyzes the problems defined and makes recommendations on possible solution alternatives.
  • Creates functional specifications to translate business requirements into application or process enhancements.
  • Facilitates the understanding, clarification, and implementation of business requirements and works with key partners in IT to turn those into functional system design
  • Owner or Subject Matter Expert (SME) for at least one discipline within an Encova Product (i.e. - Workers' Compensation Claims, Personal Lines Policy, Commercial Lines Claims, etc.)
System Development Life Cycle
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the system development life cycle and associated tools used by Encova throughout the SDLC process.
Application Incident Management
  • Validates incidents against business requirement documentation to verify whether an incident is a production defect or an enhancement
  • Reviews application incidents to determine root cause.
  • Consistently able to propose, document and implement acceptable workarounds for incidents with little help from the development team
  • Collaborates with business partners for approval on acceptable workarounds
Quality Assurance Testing
  • Collaborates with QA analysts on the development of appropriate test plans and test cases based on the functionality written in business requirement documentation
  • Executes test case scenarios and documents test results
Project Management
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the project management methodology and associated tools used by Encova throughout the Demand Management process.
  • Completes all project tasks in accordance with the timeline outlined within each assigned project
  • Assists Project/Program Managers on running small Projects that are part of a Program, the scope of each project should be no more than 2 months of development work while working with no more than 1 Agile Development Team.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  • Apply current division and department standards.
  • Available for on-call production problem resolution
  • Maintains and continues development of information technology concepts and fundamentals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business or other related field or equivalent three years of information technology or insurance experience
  • One year of experience as a Business Analyst, including but not limited to:
    • Requirements development
    • Test Case development
    • SDLC monitoring

Preferred:

  • At least three years of Business Analyst experience
  • Any of the following certifications:
    • Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP)
    • Master of Insurance Business Analysis (MIBA)
    • Customer Experience Professional Association (CXPA)
    • UX Design Certification
