Job description

Primoris Pipeline is seeking a Lead Civil Structural Designer to join our engineering group in Houston, TX. This is a WORKING LEAD position in that this role is responsible for overseeing the work of Junior and Senior Designers while also actively contributing to project deliverables.
The Structural Lead Designer is responsible for overseeing the work of other designers while also actively contributing to project deliverables. The Lead Designer ensures that project timelines and budgets are met while maintaining high-quality standards for all deliverables. They will coordinate design activities, provide guidance and mentorship to the design team, and effectively delegate tasks to ensure efficient workflow and collaboration.
The Lead Designer is also responsible maintaining consistent quality, organization, and adherence to company standards across the design team. This requires Lead Designer to oversee the creation of detailed drawings and models as well as contribute to the drafting and modeling process as needed.
In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the Lead Designer will assist with project estimation, including manhour and deliverable estimates. They will serve as a point of contact for design and drafting-related queries and play a pivotal role in the success of the design team and overall project execution.
Responsibilities:
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Cadworx Structure, and Civil 3D.
• Oversee the development of 2D and 3D drawings and models for structural systems using AutoCAD, Cadworx Structure, and Civil 3D.
• Maintain consistency in design quality, ensuring all deliverables meet project specifications and standards.
• Work with Senior Designers and CAD Designers to ensure deliverables align with project goals and deliverables.
• Ensure all design tasks are completed on schedule and within budget, working with the design team to manage workloads and deadlines
• Work with external vendors to ensure all drawings align with equipment and technical documentation.
• Perform quality checks on drawings and models to ensure they adhere to company standards and meet client requirements.
• Address any discrepancies or issues in design documents and ensure resolution.
• Delegate drafting and modeling tasks to Senior Designers and CAD Designers, ensuring appropriate workload distribution and efficiency.
• Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to Senior Designers and CAD Designers, helping to develop their skills and promote career growth.
• Oversee and coordinate the work of Senior Designers and CAD Designers to ensure smooth project execution and alignment with project requirements.
• Organize and facilitate team meetings, ensuring clear communication of goals, priorities, and deadlines.
• Assist in project estimation by calculating manhours and estimating deliverables for design tasks.
• Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure resources are allocated appropriately and that projects stay on track.
• Address design-related issues or changes promptly and effectively, ensuring alignment with client expectations.
• Actively contribute to the drafting and modeling process as needed, handling complex design tasks or troubleshooting when necessary.
• Prepare deliverables for client submissions.
• Stay updated on industry standards, software advancements, and drafting techniques to ensure the team remains competitive and innovative.
• Participate in site visits as required to gather field data.
Required Qualifications:
  • A background in the oil & gas industry with a focus on midstream projects (pipelines, pump stations, compressor stations, metering stations, etc.) is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in CAD Design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3d and CADWorx Structure.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling using a variety of Autocad applications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task from project to project.
  • Exceptional organization skills
  • Ability to collaborate well in team environment; good communication skills both verbal and written
