Job description

Crawford, Murphy & Tilly (CMT), is a full-service design consulting firm with a team of engineers, planners and other related design professionals. CMT is actively is seeking to add a talented, experienced Senior Engineer to our Springfield, IL Aviation Business Unit. The selected candidate will have demonstrated leadership qualities, the ability to work as a team member or independently, and the desire to learn new skills and areas of expertise.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Planning, design, and project management of civil & transportation projects for airport clients
  • Perform and lead projects including client management, supervising and directing junior staff in support of the group manager and the team at large
  • Typical projects require preparation of bidding documents (plans & specifications) including horizontal and vertical layout, site development, grading, drainage, pavement design, marking, signage, erosion control, coordination with other disciplines, water & sanitary utilities, quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and construction scheduling
  • Growth and mentorship of younger staff within a dynamic aviation group consisting of planners, engineers, and construction professionals
  • Serve as a client manager or the ability/desire to grow into a client-facing professional capable of delivering high quality products and services to our clients
  • Identification and pursuit of business opportunities
  • Engagement of clients, agencies and other professionals within the aviation industry

Position Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required. A Master’s degree in advanced studies will be recognized in the evaluation process.
  • Minimum six years of civil engineering experience (six years preferred) with demonstrated technical design & construction expertise in transportation, civil site development, and civil infrastructure projects including geometric design, grading, drainage, pavements, utilities, quantities, engineering reports, and specifications
  • Strong preference will be given to those with not only a technical understanding of delivering engineering projects, but those that possess a complete understanding of delivering a quality and comprehensive product, program, or solution for our aviation clients.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois, or the ability to gain that licensure
  • Demonstrated skills and a working knowledge of design program for use in civil & site design projects including skills in Civil3D that can be used or taught/transferred to team members
  • Interest in experiencing a variety of assignments and working within a highly dynamic environment is important
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Periodic out of town travel for project-related meetings, client management, and business development is anticipated.
  • Acceptable driving record and valid driver’s license
