THE DEPARTMENT: The School of Engineering at CSU East Bay serves over 550 students and offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Construction Management. This position is within our Civil Engineering program. The School also offers master's degree programs in Engineering Management and Construction Management. Housed within the College of Science, the School enjoys strong support from local industry, including an active Advisory Board with representation from major regional firms. DUTIES OF THE POSITION: We are seeking an Assistant Professor of Engineering with the ability to teach courses in Civil Engineering, as well as in the Common Engineering Core, and Construction Management. The successful candidate will be able to teach in some core areas of the Civil Engineering curriculum, such as engineering mechanics, structures, environmental and sustainability, water resources, or construction engineering and management. We do not expect expertise in all areas; rather, we are looking for a colleague with the flexibility and interest to teach across multiple parts of the curriculum as needed in an expanding program.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research, publish papers, collaborate with local industrial partners and attract funding in areas related to Civil Engineering. Demonstrated expertise or interest in interdisciplinary or emerging fields in Civil Engineering or Engineering Education is highly desirable.

In addition to teaching and research, this faculty member will be responsible for advising students, curriculum development, program outreach, assisting the department with administrative, committee work, accreditation, industry engagement, and other activities required to advance the mission of the School of Engineering. Faculty are expected to assume campus-wide committee responsibilities and community engagement. Strong commitment to student success, collegiality, inclusive pedagogy, and effective mentoring of a diverse student population is essential.

Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online. The policy and expectation of the California State University is that tenure-track faculty members will perform their duties within the state of California.

RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization. Anticipated salary: $94,356-$101,124

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Fall Semester, 2027.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field by August 17, 2027. Professional experience and the ability to obtain, or possession of, an active Professional Engineer (PE-Civil) license are highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or community engagement that prepares them to contribute to the University's commitment to diversity and excellence.
