We are looking to add new talent to our growing team! We are currently seeking a Project Civil/Environmental Engineer to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing group and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. This is a full-time position located in our Rochester, NY office.
In this role, you will contribute to a broad range of civil and environmental engineering projects, supporting assignments from proposal development and initial field reconnaissance through design and project execution. You will perform technical calculations and modeling, prepare design drawings and technical reports, and help deliver high-quality solutions that meet project and client objectives. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support projects nationwide.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, you will:

  • Conduct field reconnaissance and support proposal development, including preparation of technical approaches, scopes of work, and cost estimates.
  • Perform technical calculations and modeling, and prepare design drawings and supporting documentation for civil and environmental engineering projects.
  • Prepare clear, accurate technical reports and other project deliverables.
  • Support project execution and coordination for assignments led from the Rochester office and for project teams nationwide.
  • Serve as a liaison between junior and senior engineering staff, facilitating communication, technical coordination, knowledge transfer, and mentoring.
  • Apply academic and industry knowledge, as well as learnings from prior work experience to execute project work.
  • Under the direction of the senior staff, participate in communications with client, agencies, and internal teams within your discipline.
  • Perform civil engineering evaluations using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other engineering software.
  • Conduct basic construction observation, including quality control documentation and field testing tasks.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed documentation of activities both in the field and during data evaluation.
  • Prepare permit applications.
  • Perform all work in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols.
  • Demonstrate the company's foundational safety behaviors.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • 4-10 years of related experience.
  • Must possess EIT, PE, or plan to obtain professional certification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be proficient at writing technical reports to meet project requirements.
  • Able to work independently on individual tasks supporting technical work and exhibit the ability to manage tasks and perform work on multiple projects or multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to support knowledge transfer and manage junior engineering staff in executing appropriate project tasks.
  • Desire to learn and grow in your profession, demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, resourcefulness, flexibility, and ownership.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the position: lift 50 lbs., traverse unstable/sloping sites and landscapes, work outside in a range of weather conditions, and have the stamina for moderate physical activity for the majority of field working hours (estimated at 20% of time).

Preferred Skills:
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field a plus
  • Design, construction procurement, and/or direct construction experience.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training.
  • Experience with HydroCAD and/or HEC-RAS.

The salary range for this position in Rochester, NY is $82,000 - $95,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions. Haley & Aldrich reviews salary ranges each quarter to assess competitiveness with the market.
