This direct hire role will support a cutting-edge nuclear power organization focused on advanced small modular reactor (SMR) technology. This role will play a critical part in ensuring safe, compliant, and innovative structural designs for nuclear energy applications.
Work Status: Direct Hire with benefits
Annual Salary: $130,000 - $150,000 (Commensurate with experience)
Citizen Status: Due to Federal DOE regulations, U.S. Citizenship is required
Location: Houston, TX 77024 (or remote with 10-15% travel)
POSITION SUMMARY:
Applies technical knowledge, insight, reasoning, and decision making to perform civil structural analyses and design of Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures. Candidates should possess a strong design background and be proficient in structural concrete and steel analysis and design.
Responsibilities:
- Uses structural engineering tools and implements appropriate standards to design Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures including post-processing analytical results and designing structures for various material types (concrete, steel, etc.).
- Interacts with other disciplines and structural engineering consultants in an effort to allow effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems.
- Develops and reviews requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies.
- Lead the oversight of suppliers and review technical information (i.e. drawings, reports, specifications, calculations, etc.) to ensure it aligns with statements of work and requirements documents.
- Provide mentorship to more junior team members.
- May be asked to take the lead in technical issues as needed.
Education / Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is required. (Advanced degree is preferred.)
- A registered professional engineer license (P.E.) is strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of Structural Design experience in the following areas:
- Design and analysis of structures, including concrete and steel, use of design software and finite element method analyses.
- Working with the following codes preferred: ASCE 43, ASCE 4, ACI 349 & 318, ASCE 7, IBC, and AISC N690, Steel Construction Manual and Seismic Design Manual.
- Use of ANSYS, LS-DYNA, and SAP2000 preferred.
- Computer programing skills (e.g. MATLAB or Python) preferred.
- Individuals should possess or acquire general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
- Possess strong written and oral communication skills and routinely interacts with contractors and/or regulatory bodies.
- Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
