Safety Director

Location: Macon, Georgia

Industry: Civil Construction - Bridge, DOT, and Site Development

Salary Range: $90,000 - $120,000 annually + benefits

This firm is a leading Civil Construction General Contractor specializing in bridge construction, DOT roadway projects, and private site development throughout the Southeast. They are committed to delivering high-quality projects while maintaining a culture centered on safety, teamwork, and operational excellence.

Position Summary

The firm is seeking an experienced Safety Director to lead and oversee all aspects of the company's safety program. This individual will be responsible for promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations, conducting training, and partnering with project teams to minimize risk across multiple civil construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and audits on bridge, roadway, and site development projects.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, environmental, and client-specific safety requirements.
  • Lead incident investigations and develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training programs.
  • Monitor subcontractor safety performance and ensure compliance with project safety standards.
  • Maintain safety records, reports, and documentation.
  • Work closely with project managers, superintendents, and field personnel to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Participate in project planning activities to incorporate safety measures into project execution.
  • Track and report safety metrics, trends, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of safety management experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Strong background in bridge construction, DOT/highway work, grading, utilities, concrete, or site development projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices.
  • Experience conducting accident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence field personnel and project teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management software.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification (required).
  • OSHA 500, CHST, CSP, or other professional safety certifications preferred.
  • Experience working on DOT-funded transportation projects.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
