Job Summary

QTC is seeking an experienced Civil Construction Laborer with a broad background in concrete, rebar, underground utilities, excavation and general civil construction.

This is a hands-on field position. The employee will be expected to perform physical labor and assist with all phases of civil construction. Equipment operation may be part of the position, but this is not an equipment-operator-only role.

The ideal candidate is dependable, hardworking, safety-conscious and willing to contribute wherever needed to help the crew complete work safely and efficiently.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform concrete forming, pouring, placement and finishing.
  • Install, tie and place reinforcing steel and rebar.
  • Assist with underground utility, conduit and foundation installation.
  • Perform trenching, excavation, backfilling, compaction and grading work.
  • Hand dig, shovel, rake and perform general construction labor.
  • Assist with site preparation, layout and cleanup.
  • Operate skid steers, mini excavators, backhoes and other construction equipment when needed and qualified.
  • Load, unload and organize tools, materials and equipment.
  • Follow project plans, jobsite instructions and established work procedures.
  • Work safely around trenches, excavation, heavy equipment and active construction areas.
  • Inspect tools and equipment before use and report any issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe jobsite.
  • Work cooperatively with foremen, operators, laborers and other members of the project team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of general civil and underground construction practices.
  • Experience with concrete, rebar, trenching, excavation or underground utilities.
  • Willingness and ability to perform physical labor throughout the workday.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools and construction equipment.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability and attention to safety.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions.
  • Equipment operating experience is preferred but does not replace the labor requirements of the position.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record may be required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required.

Education and Experience

  • Previous experience in civil, underground, utility or concrete construction is required.
  • Experience operating skid steers, excavators, backhoes or similar equipment is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Relevant construction training or certifications are a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, squat and work in trenches or uneven terrain.
  • Ability to shovel, dig, rake and perform repetitive physical tasks.
  • Ability to work outdoors in hot, cold, wet, dusty and other construction-site conditions.
  • Ability to safely work around heavy equipment, moving vehicles and active construction operations.
