The City of Brownsville is hiring! The HVAC Maintenance Helper will travel with a City HVAC Technician to various City buildings and service locations, assisting with general maintenance and HVAC-related service activities.
No prior HVAC experience is required. Candidates with general maintenance, construction, mechanical, or hands-on labor experience are preferred. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in gaining exposure to HVAC maintenance and learning from an experienced technician.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Travel with a City HVAC Technician to service calls at various City buildings and facilities.
- Assist the HVAC Technician with general service and maintenance tasks.
- Retrieve, carry, and hand tools, equipment, and materials to the technician as needed.
- Assist with moving and positioning materials and equipment.
- Help maintain a clean and organized work area at service locations.
- Assist with basic maintenance and labor tasks as directed by the HVAC Technician.
- Load, unload, and transport tools and materials needed for service calls.
- Follow all safety procedures and instructions provided by the HVAC Technician and City personnel.
- Work outdoors and in various weather conditions as required.
- Perform other general assistance duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- No previous HVAC experience required.
- Previous general maintenance, construction, mechanical, or hands-on labor experience preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable transportation to the designated reporting location.
- Must be comfortable traveling to various City buildings and service locations with a City HVAC Technician.
- Must be able to work outdoors and in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to use basic hand tools is preferred but not required.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and perform physical labor throughout the workday.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors and in varying weather conditions.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is dependable, hands-on, willing to learn, and comfortable working alongside an experienced HVAC Technician. Candidates with general maintenance or mechanical experience are encouraged to apply, but HVAC experience is not required.
