Job description

Overview

The Team Gymnastics Coach is responsible for the delivery of quality gymnastics classes to school-age children, while maintaining a safe environment and incorporating the YMCA's Mission and Core Values.ย

Schedule

  • Location: Copley Price Family YMCA
  • Monday 4:30PM-7:30PM, Tuesday 5:00PM-7:30PM, Wednesday 5:30PM-7:30PM, Saturday 10:00AM-1:00PM
  • Flexibility on weekends for meetsย 
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and train gymnastic skills and equipmentย 
  • Supervise and instruct participants on proper use of equipmentย 
  • Maintain a safe environment at all timesย 
  • Understand and enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and proceduresย 
  • Keep equipment in good condition by returning to storage area at end of class and notifying supervisor when equipment needs to be repairedย 
  • Stay informed about the program specifics such as session dates, prices, classes, days, and timesย 
  • Work with the program director to ensure all participants are registered and in the correct classย 
  • Maintain accurate records of class attendanceย 
  • Distribute certificates of achievement and program evaluations to class participantsย 
  • Show enthusiasm, leadership, fairness, and fun through coaching styleย 
  • Communicate with parents regarding program evaluations and participant progressย 
  • Immediately notify supervisor regarding participant or parent incidentsย 
  • Attend training events and instructor clinics when made availableย 
  • Encourage positive social skills and appropriate behavior; lead by exampleย 
  • The physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills
  • Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and proceduresย 
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
  • Other duties as assignedย ย 
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 16 years of age or older
  • If actively enrolled in high school, a valid school district Work Permit is required
  • 18 years of age or older, licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications
  • 2+ years' of gymnastics instruction experience requiredย 
  • Ability to spot school-age children in basic skillsย 
  • Knowledge of gymnastics equipmentย 
  • Familiar with USA Gymnastics progressive levelsย 
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:ย 
    • American Red Crossย 
    • American Heart Associationย 
    • American Safety & Health Instituteย
