L.L.Bean, Inc. in Freeport, Maine, is seeking a Field Services Technician to join our Network Team. This role is ideal for someone with proven experience in networking, cabling, and device installations who is passionate about delivering the connectivity that powers our business. The technician will install, maintain, and support cabling and network equipment throughout the greater Freeport area while also providing remote support for locations across the organization.
This is a HYBRID position working some days onsite at our Headquarters in Freeport, ME and some days from home.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor employment visas for this position.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform installation, configuration, break/fix, and preventive maintenance for network edge equipment - switches, wireless access points, appliances, and cabling - including physical installs, replacements, and Layer 1/2 troubleshooting.
• Act as a primary resource for executing changes, staging equipment, and validating connectivity during deployments and incidents.
• Respond to and resolve assigned tickets within SLA, escalating complex network, security, or systems issues to the appropriate engineering group with clear diagnostic detail.
• Execute datacenter support, hardware refresh, site build-out, and new-store opening projects, including staging equipment, imaging, deployment, and go-live support.
• Diagnose connectivity and performance issues at the site level, coordinating with network engineering on WAN/LAN, wireless, and security (e.g., Zscaler/SD-WAN) dependencies.
• Maintain accurate asset, inventory, and configuration records, and document work performed in the ticketing and knowledge-management systems.
• Manage on-site vendor and carrier appointments (circuit installs, hardware deliveries, structured cabling) and validate work against requirements.
• Participate in an on-call / after-hours rotation to support business-critical sites and maintenance windows.
Health and Safety Requirement: Every employee is responsible for contributing to a safe and healthy workplace. Employees are expected to be active participants in health and safety by following all safety policies and procedures, reporting unsafe conditions or at-risk behaviors to leadership, and conducting work in a safe manner. Those in a leadership role are also expected to model safe behaviors, evaluate risk, and ensure that risks are reduced to acceptable levels.
Required Qualifications
• 2-3+ years of hands-on IT field support or infrastructure technician experience.
• Working knowledge of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, Wi-Fi, and structured cabling.
• Experience troubleshooting end-user hardware, operating systems (Windows), and common peripherals.
• Ability to read and follow runbooks, wiring diagrams, and change documentation, and to document work accurately.
• Strong customer-service orientation and the ability to communicate technical status to non-technical staff.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting retail POS environments, distribution/warehouse technology (handheld scanners, label printers), or multi-site infrastructure.
• Exposure to enterprise network and security platforms (e.g., Meraki/Arista switching, wireless access points, Zscaler, Palo Alto).
• Familiarity with ITSM ticketing and asset management tools, and with imaging/endpoint management platforms.
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+/Network+, Cisco CCT/CCNA, or equivalent.
• Basic scripting or comfort with command-line tools for diagnostics.
Physical & Travel Requirements
• Regular regional travel between assigned sites or other facilities.
• Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and working in equipment/wiring areas.
• Occasional lifting and carrying of hardware and cabling materials.
• Ability to lift and move equipment (up to ~50 lbs), work in wiring closets and stockrooms, and use ladders/lifts as needed.
• Valid driver's license (annual driver history check) and ability to travel between sites within the assigned region.
• Expectation to be onsite 4 days per week in Freeport, ME
L.L.Bean uses a market-based compensation approach. The anticipated starting base pay for this position is $73,000-$91,200.
