About The Position

The Senior Maintenance Technician is a highly skilled, experienced professional responsible for advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex building systems, including HVAC, boilers, water heaters, plumbing, electrical systems, and central plant operations. Working closely with the Facilities Director and Manager, the Senior Maintenance Technician provides functional guidance to Maintenance Technicians to support a more effective preventive maintenance strategy and serves as a subject-matter expert to reduce vendor reliance, extend asset life cycles, and improve operational reliability. The Senior Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in delivering high-quality customer service to residents and internal stakeholders through clear communication, professionalism, and responsiveness.

The pay starts at $31.50/hr

The hours for this role are 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday

Essential Job Duties

Advanced Technical & Mechanical Responsibilities

  • Partners with management and other team members perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems, boilers, water heaters, pumps, motors, valves, controls, and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Applies advanced skills and experience to maintenance and operational support for central plant systems, including boilers, domestic hot water systems, circulation systems, and mechanical rooms.
  • Performs skilled electrical troubleshooting and repairs involving circuits, panels, motors, controls, lighting, and equipment.
  • Conducts complex plumbing repairs including domestic water, drainage, fixtures, valves, piping, and related systems.

Preventive Maintenance & Asset Management

  • Leads and executes planned preventive maintenance (PM) programs for major building systems and life-safety equipment.
  • Ensures proper upkeep of critical assets to reduce emergency repairs, downtime, and costly vendor interventions.
  • Maintains accurate maintenance records.

Team Support

  • Assists with on-the-job training, skills development, and knowledge transfer to raise team capability.
  • Serves as a lead technician on complex repairs and special projects.
  • Promotes a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service when interacting with residents/family members, team members, and visitors.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally regarding maintenance issues, repair timelines, and resolution status.
  • Responds effectively to service requests with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.

Compliance, Safety & Operations

  • Ensures compliance with safety standards, fire and life-safety systems, and applicable regulations.
  • Responds to after-hours or emergency maintenance issues as required.
  • Performs snow and ice removal and other seasonal duties as needed.

Other Expectations

  • Abides by and enforce departmental, personnel, and company policies and procedures including written reports, documentation, and tracking of data/information.

Qualifications

Required Experience & Skills:

· At least 5 years of progressive facilities maintenance experience required in healthcare or senior living setting including direct hands-on experience with:

  • Mechanical HVAC systems, boilers and domestic hot water systems, pumps, motors, valves, and controls, plumbing and electrical systems
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
  • Ability to respond to emergency or on-call maintenance needs as required.
  • Proven ability to effectively troubleshoot complex building systems.
  • Strong preventive maintenance mindset focused on asset protection and reliability.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and exercise sound judgment.

Certifications:

  • HVAC Certification - required
  • Boiler Operator License – required
  • Electrical or Mechanical Trade Certification – highly preferred
  • EPA Universal Certification - preferred
