As a Physical Security Operator, you will support a 24x7 real-time operations environment working as part of a technology control center with exposure to physical security, IT networking, cyber operations, and technical field support.

This is primarily a security monitoring and operations center role rather than a physical patrol or security officer position.

This opportunity is ideal for a dependable and detail-oriented professional who enjoys monitoring systems, responding to alarms and requests, documenting activity accurately, and supporting a secure environment that matters to communities across Georgia.

Candidates with additional experience, demonstrated reliability, and leadership capability may be considered for higher-level classifications (Security Operator II or III).

  • Overtime may be required in emergencies or to assist with standard coverage needs.
 What You'll Do

As a Physical Security Operator, you will play a key role in supporting GSOC's physical security operations, access control, alarm response, and situational awareness activities.

You will:

  • Monitor and respond to physical security alarm systems, surveillance equipment, notification systems, life-safety systems, and related technologies.
  • Perform walkdowns as required to support physical security monitoring and response activities.
  • Support escalated security activities with internal staff and external resources, including federal, state, and local law enforcement when appropriate.
  • Track, escalate, and report security-related activity to relevant authorities while maintaining accurate and auditable logs.
  • Support incoming phone and email requests, including reports of suspicious activity, physical security issues, access requests, or requests requiring redirection to other teams.
  • Create and distribute access badges as directed.
  • Prepare written communications that support situational awareness for relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities, regular operations drills, and training exercises.
  • Provide backup monitoring and response to alerts in communications network and cyber security infrastructure, and support other operations teams as required.

At advanced levels, this role may also:

  • Conduct on-the-job training and certification support for other Physical Security Operators.
  • Generate reports, presentations, procedures, and related documentation that support physical security operations.
  • Assist with staff scheduling and team coordination activities.
  • Support process improvements that strengthen consistency, accountability, readiness, and auditability across security operations.
What You Bring
  • Associate degree in a related security, law enforcement, or business field is preferred. Equivalent combination of education, training, and directly related work experience may be considered.
  • Availability and flexibility to work the required schedule, rotating shifts, emergency coverage needs, and a 24x7 operations environment that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Experience maintaining accurate documentation and auditable logs of required security-related activities.
  • Will be required to obtain and maintain Bulk Electric System Cyber Authorized Status as defined by GSOC policy and NERC Reliability Standard CIP-004 Personnel Risk Assessment.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to remain objective, dependable, professional, and composed while responding to uncertain or time-sensitive situations.
  • Strong judgment, integrity, reporting skills, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

Security, Operations & Customer Support

  • Experience in physical security, military, law enforcement, customer service, or related fields.
  • Experience monitoring security systems, surveillance systems, access control systems, or life-safety systems.
  • Experience supporting operations centers, critical facilities, or other high-security environments is a plus.
Technology & Systems
  • Experience using Microsoft Windows, SharePoint, Outlook, ID badge systems, or camera monitoring systems is preferred.
  • Interest in gaining exposure to IT networking, cyber security, technical field support, and technology control center operations.
Certifications
  • Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification is preferred.
  • Physical Security Certification (PSC) is preferred.
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification is preferred.
 Leveling Overview
  • Security Operator I - Entry-level security operations contributor; specific physical security experience is not required, though related experience in security, military, law enforcement, customer service, or a related field may be considered.
  • Security Operator II - Experienced contributor with ideally 2+ years of physical security, military, law enforcement, or related experience; supports all core duties and conducts on-the-job training and certification with other Security Operators.
