Job description

SALARY RANGE
$30-$38 per hour.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Hands-on projectionist, handling DCP workflows, operating laser and lamp-based cinema projectors, supporting live and recorded presentations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Digital Cinema & Media Operations
  • Operate and maintain Barco SP4K laser and Christie HD10K-M DLP projectors.
  • Ingest, verify, and manage DCP packages, KDM handling, and playlist creation.
  • Ensure correct image formatting, masking, color calibration, and audio sync.
  • Monitor screenings for quality control and respond to issues in real time.
  • Operate alternative content sources including HDMI/SDI, laptops, and media servers.
Theatre & Live-Event Support
  • Support projection needs for festivals, rentals, lectures, community programs, and live performances.
  • Participate in technical rehearsals when projection is cued.
  • Assist with basic A/V setup for presentations and hybrid events.
Maintenance, Documentation & Workflow
  • Perform routine inspection, alignment, cleaning, and diagnostics of projection equipment.
  • Maintain logs of ingests, Key Delivery Messages (KDMs), screenings, and maintenance tasks.
  • Update SOPs and workflow documentation.
Safety, Compliance & Conduct
  • Follow DCI/SMPTE standards and internal procedures for content security.
  • Adhere to venue safety policies including ladder use and cable management.
  • Communicate professionally with filmmakers, rentals, artists, and staff.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Proven experience working with DCP files in a professional cinema, festival, or live event environment.
  • Hands-on experience with laser projectors and traditional xenon/lamp-based projectors
  • Familiarity with Barco & Christie projection systems (servers, lenses, alignment, and software interfaces)
  • Solid understanding of Digital Cinema standards, signal flow, and projection best practices
  • Ability to troubleshoot under time pressure in live-event environments
  • Comfortable working evenings, weekends and holidays and irregular schedules as required
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
  • Knowledge of audio formats (5.1, 7.1, Dolby Atmos)
  • Familiarity with media servers, alternative content playback, or live events AV systems
WORKING CONDITIONS
On site work, at JCCSF facilities. Kanbar Hall Theatre and Meeting Rooms. Over-hire basis.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee must be able to stand, sit, bend, kneel and climb ladders and stairs as needed, and safely lift and carry equipment up to 40lbs

HOURS
Overhire, up to 19hrs per week
SCHEDULE
  • Overhire, as needed on event schedule.
  • Must be available to work weekends and evening hours.
    • Willing to work holidays a plus
