Work Environment & Format

This is a hybrid-eligible position, where Monday through Wednesday would be working in one of our offices, with Thursday and Friday eligible for work-from-home days. Office locations include: Reno (NV), Monterey (CA), Roseville (CA), and Phoenix (AZ).

Overview

The Personal Lines Underwriter is responsible for maintaining an underwriting desk which includes the individual risk selection according to company guidelines. In addition, the role requires maintaining profitability, establishing strong internal as well as external customer relationships. The position will provide knowledge of underwriting appetite and company philosophy to our agency partners. The individual will participate in audits and special projects as needed to facilitate the continued growth and renewal profitability goals. This person will work closely with the Underwriting Supervisor on any matters related to Personal Lines Underwriting.

Responsibilities

  • Review and maintain agency management practices for assigned agents, utilizing this information for respective file decisions and quarterly agency reviews.
  • Complete drafts for Department of Insurance complaints with the assistance of the PL Underwriting Supervisor
  • Complete underwriting and file reviews on referred new business, endorsements, inspections, CRU Claim Report to Underwriting, and renewal questionnaires.
  • Field incoming phone calls and email messages from agents to provide underwriting answers to inquiries and service for the assigned territory.
  • Achieve annual growth, loss ratio, retention and time service goals\
  • Agency Management Use of APS Agency Profile System and regular contact with ADM Agency Development Manager in a mutual partnership to facilitate production.
  • Undertakes special projects as requested by management. May participate in audit and quality control reviews.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of insurance industry terminology and laws
  • General policies and procedures for underwriting personal lines insurance risks
  • A college degree is preferred with 3 years experience as a Personal Lines underwriter or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply sound underwriting principles in a professional, consultative manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills are required.
  • Continued personal development in insurance courses is desirable.
  • Experience with automated underwriting and rating systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft software including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.

Salary Range: $55,012.00 - $91,687.00

The salary range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary range for this role. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range above or below, depending on experience and location. We look at compensation for each individual and base our offer on your unique qualifications, experience, and expected contributions. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation in addition to base salary, such as benefits and bonus programs.
