Job Overview
The Finance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of Hope Church, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, effective budget management, and compliance with applicable requirements.
This position works closely with senior leadership, staff, department leaders, employees, vendors, and external partners. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with large amounts of financial data, identifying discrepancies, developing solutions, and communicating financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial team members.
The Finance Manager will also oversee key employee administration processes related to payroll, benefits, insurance, onboarding, and offboarding.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting or financial management experience
  • Experience with QuickBooks required
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with APlus payroll systems preferred
  • Experience with Planning Center preferred
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and reconciliation
  • Experience managing payroll, benefits, insurance, or employee financial records preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial and employee information
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with staff and leadership
  • Commitment to conducting personal and professional life in a manner consistent with the beliefs and values of Hope Church

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
  • Manage the day-to-day financial operations of Hope Church
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts
  • Manage monthly Profit & Loss statements
  • Monitor and manage departmental expenses
  • Provide monthly budget updates and detailed general ledger reports to staff and leadership
  • Review income and expense activity for accuracy and proper coding
  • Monitor departmental budgets and communicate variances or concerns to appropriate leaders
  • Prepare financial reports for monthly Trustee meetings and Annual Business Meetings
  • Assist senior leadership with financial analysis, forecasting, and budget planning
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records
  • Work with vendors and staff to resolve financial questions and discrepancies
  • Ensure financial processes are completed accurately and within established timelines

Payroll & Employee Administration
  • Manage the financial and administrative aspects of employee onboarding and offboarding
  • Ensure required employee forms are distributed, completed, signed, and properly maintained
  • Establish and maintain payroll and employee accounts
  • Coordinate employee benefit enrollment and changes
  • Process and maintain employee payroll, benefit, insurance, and compensation records
  • Maintain accurate records of vacation and personal time
  • Process employee changes related to benefits, payroll, and insurance
  • Coordinate insurance renewals, open enrollment, and employee exit options
  • Maintain documentation related to annual wage reviews
  • Respond to annual Workers' Compensation audits
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records

Insurance & Benefits Administration
  • Serve as a primary point of contact with Hope Church's insurance broker and insurance providers
  • Coordinate employee insurance enrollment, changes, renewals, and termination of coverage
  • Work directly with the insurance company and broker regarding employee and organizational claims
  • Coordinate and respond to insurance claims, questions, and required documentation
  • Manage annual insurance reviews, renewals, and open enrollment processes
  • Prepare and provide information requested by insurance providers and brokers
  • Maintain accurate insurance records and ensure employee information is current
  • Coordinate annual insurance audits and reviews, including Workers' Compensation audits
  • Communicate insurance changes and important information to employees as needed
  • Monitor insurance-related deadlines and ensure required forms and documentation are completed accurately and on time
Church Operations & Compliance
  • Maintain appropriate financial documentation and records
  • Follow established financial controls, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure financial practices comply with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies
  • Assist with annual audits, reviews, insurance requirements, and other financial or administrative reporting
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, accuracy, and efficiency
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding financial, payroll, employee, and church-related information
Additional Ministry Support
Because Hope Church is a ministry environment, this position may occasionally provide financial or administrative support for church ministries, programs, and special events. Responsibilities may include supporting:

Schedule
This is a full-time position. Regular hours will be established based on the needs of the position and Hope Church. Occasional evenings, weekends, and extended hours may be required for special events, meetings, or organizational needs.
