What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a church administrator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Church Administrator, you need strong organizational skills, financial management abilities, and familiarity with church operations, often supported by a background in business administration or relevant experience. Proficiency with office software, church management systems, and basic accounting tools is typically required. Excellent communication, discretion, and interpersonal skills help build trust with staff, volunteers, and congregants. These skills ensure smooth daily operations, effective resource management, and a welcoming environment for the church community.

What are some common challenges faced by church administrative staff, and how can they prepare for them?

Church administrative staff often juggle a variety of tasks, such as managing schedules, organizing events, maintaining records, and supporting clergy and congregants. Common challenges include balancing competing priorities, handling confidential information sensitively, and adapting to the needs of a diverse congregation. To prepare, candidates should develop strong organizational skills, effective communication abilities, and comfort with technology commonly used in church offices. Being proactive and adaptable helps administrative staff thrive in this dynamic environment.

  • Medication & Disease Management: Develop, monitor, and adjust comprehensive health plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
  • Dispensing & Counseling: Oversee the safe preparation and dispensing of medications (including injections) and provide specialized adherence counseling.
  • Community Wellness Programs: Manage chronic disease therapies, spearhead screening programs, and support vital substance misuse and treatment initiatives.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and direct pharmacy staff and technicians to maintain exceptional service standards and strict regulatory compliance.

What You Bring to the Team

We are seeking a reliable, proactive leader with sound clinical judgment and a genuine desire to make a positive community impact.

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BScPhm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD).
  • Licensure: Valid, active license with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) in good standing.
  • Authorizations: Additional Prescribing Authorization (APA) is required. Authorization to Administer Drugs by Injection is highly preferred.
  • Background Checks: A clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Record Check are mandatory.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with electronic health records and pharmacy software (experience with Kroll is a strong asset).
  • Experience: Previous experience in direct patient care and pharmacy management is preferred.
