Position Summary

Covenant Presbyterian Church is seeking an experienced, part-time Church Accountant to join our team at our North Central Austin campus. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, self-motivated professional who values accuracy, meets deadlines consistently, needs a flexible work schedule of 20-25 hours weekly, and enjoys serving alongside others in a collaborative ministry environment.

Requirements

Primary Responsibilities

The Church Accountant is responsible for providing accurate, timely, and confidential accounting, payroll, and financial recordkeeping services that support the church's mission and daily operations.


Accounting & Financial Operations

  • Process accounts payable, including reviewing and approving expenses and Bill.com credit card transactions.
  • Prepare accounts payable reports for Administrator review and payment processing.
  • Process contributions and gifts, including cash, checks, electronic giving, and ACH/EFT deposits.
  • Prepare remote bank deposits and monitor daily bank activity for accuracy and potential fraud.
  • Upload check runs to Frost Posi-Pay and accurately record transactions in Realm.
  • Prepare payroll in Paylocity for salaried, hourly, and special payrolls, and provide reports for Administrator review prior to processing.
  • Record journal entries and maintain the general ledger using fund accounting.
  • Reconcile bank accounts in Realm and Bill.com accounts monthly.
  • Maintain all records digitally.
  • Adhere to established internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Serve as primary contact for members and vendors regarding contributions and accounts payable.

Administrative Support

  • Provide administrative support to the Administrator and ministry staff.
  • Answer and place telephone calls in support of church operations.
  • Collaborate on special projects and process improvements.
  • Work cooperatively with staff, members, and ministry leaders to support church programs and operations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Process memorial gifts and prepare acknowledgment letters for donors and families.
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of periodic and annual contribution statements.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate as a member of the church staff team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator.
