Director of Music Ministries - Cumming First UMC

The Director of Music Ministriesprovides visionary, pastoral, and administrative leadership for all facets of Cumming First UMC (CFUMC) music ministry. This full-time role collaborates with clergy to design inspiring, theologically rich worship services, directs choir and instrumental ensembles, and empowers volunteers of all ages to glorify God and nurture spiritual growth.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Recruit choir members, select challenging music, collaborate with and give supervision to the organist, direct both the chancel choir and handbell choir
  • Interview and Hire high school/college students for the four sections of the choir and to lead contemporary service
  • Coordinate musicians, select music, rehearse, and grow music repertoire of the contemporary service
  • Plan special music events (Christmas, Easter, etc.)
  • Teach preschool music two days per week and plan special preschool programs (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Grandparents Day, Graduation, etc.)
  • Expand the music ministry of CFUMC to various expressions (various genres, children, youth, etc.)
  • Serve or coordinate host for special musical events of outside groups at the church

Qualifications:

  • Three to five years of experience leading a church music ministry is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in music, Sacred Music or Theology is preferred.
  • Strong keyboard/piano/organ/voice skills and a deep understanding of conducting and voice techniques
  • Familiarity with the theology and worship practices of The United Methodist Church.
  • Ability to select music that aligns with the church’s liturgical tradition and theological principles.
  • Ability/experience teaching preschool music and music at all age and ability levels.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, relational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to recruit, train, and equip volunteers.
  • A heart for ministry and worship and a growing personal relationship with Christ.
  • Team player and a self-starter who works well with all in authority/supervision, staff colleagues, vendors, members, etc.
