Job description

The Salvation Army Service Extension Unit located in Marion, Illinois, is looking for a highly motivated, self-starter to join our team as the new Southern Illinois Service Extension Director. This is a salaried position that comes with a generous benefits package. Starting pay is $60,000 to $65,000 per year.

This position, with a significant focus on operations and business development, is responsible for developing and maintaining a stable and accessible Salvation Army presence that provides hope and healing through its programming and services in the 23 Southernmost counties in Illinois and via the Service Extension Thrift Stores throughout the Division. The Southern Illinois Service Extension Director is integral in the management and leadership of a dynamic team of volunteers and staff that advance and support the Mission of The Salvation Army.

The essential functions of this position include:

  1. Develop and implement a strategic plan that focuses on financial sustainability and missional alignment for Southern Illinois Service Extension and Divisional Thrift Stores
  2. Develop effective, measurable and profitable marketing and sales strategies for each thrift store; provide quarterly reports to Divisional Finance Board
  3. Analyze market trends and propose new opportunities for growth within the division
  4. Provide regular in person and virtual coaching for Thrift Store managers and Southern Illinois Service Extension direct reports to ensure performance standards and deliverables are met
  5. Provide operational oversight and leadership for the Southern Illinois Service Extension; ensuring business records are kept, policies, procedures, and best practices are adhered to, and manage the procurement and maintenance of products and services
  6. Coordinate with Divisional Service Extension Director in annual budget preparation and review for Southern Illinois Service Extension and Service Extension Thrift Stores. Be fiscally responsible for the budget.
  7. Attend in-service seminars and conference as required.

In order to qualify for this position a candidate must meet the following minimum qualifications:

Related bachelor's degree with four (4) years' experience in related fields, or other combinations of education and experience with at least one year of supervisory experience. Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, like working with others and support The Salvation Army mission. Must become familiar with all Salvation Army functions and programs supported by Service Extension and Thrift Stores. Team player, a self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Must demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment. Knowledge of donor database software is a plus. Requires a valid drivers' license and pass The Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Report check.
