Church keyboardists play the piano or keyboard during Sunday services and other worship events. In this role, you discuss the music needs of the church with your pastor, rehearse for each service, and determine which songs to play during different sections of the service. Churches often have different expectations for the use of instruments during services, so adapting to the regulations of your church is an essential part of this job. Other responsibilities include maintaining your keyboard and resolving common technical problems with the sound system. On some occasions, you may teach music classes or help other people in the congregation rehearse for special events, even if you will not play during them.
