Summary

The Musician provides instrumental support to the designated church choir on 1st and 3rd Sundays. In this role, the Musician aligns to the direction given by the Director / Directress and/or Music Ministry Coordinator.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

· Serve as the Director / Directress and/or coordinate with the Music Ministry Coordinator to plan for and practice appropriate music for worship services and other church programs

· Plan, practice and play appropriate music, as directed by the Director/Directress and/or Music Ministry Coordinator

· Participate in choir rehearsals to ensure optimal preparation and performance

· Accompany soloists, choirs and others during rehearsals, worship services and other church programs

· Accompany congregational singing

· Provide input (suggestions) to the Director / Directress and/or Music Ministry Coordinator in the event he/she is unable to be present

· Other duties as assigned

Key Qualifications

Required:

  • 10+ years playing the instrument (keyboard, organ, piano)
  • Proven ability to read music
  • 3-5 years experience providing musical support to a medium sized church
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Preferred:

  • Bachelors Degree in Music, Music Appreciation or related field
  • Proven ability to play by ear
  • Proven ability to work with diverse teams, with varying musical talents

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time *
  • Ability to maintain focus on the Director / Directress and/or Music Ministry Coordinator
