Remote positions allow them to work from any location, offering flexibility and the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded teams or serve faith-driven missions globally.

The main difference between Christian Software Engineer Remote and Christian Web Developer Remote lies in their technical focus. Software engineers typically work on complex applications and systems, while web developers focus on website and web app creation. Both roles often share similar faith-based values and remote work environments, but their technical skills and project types differ.

How do Christian Software Engineers working remotely typically collaborate with faith-based organizations and distributed teams?

Christian Software Engineers in remote roles often work with both technical teams and stakeholders from faith-based organizations. Collaboration is typically facilitated through regular video meetings, shared project management tools, and clear documentation to ensure alignment with organizational missions and technical goals. Many faith-based organizations value open communication and a strong sense of community, so engineers are encouraged to participate in virtual team devotions or prayer meetings, in addition to standard agile ceremonies. This structure helps maintain a supportive environment and ensures that both technical and spiritual objectives are met.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Christian Software Engineer (Remote), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Christian Software Engineer working remotely, you need strong programming skills (such as in Python, Java, or JavaScript), a relevant degree or equivalent experience, and a commitment to ethical development aligned with Christian values. Familiarity with cloud platforms, version control systems like Git, and common development frameworks is important, along with any industry-standard certifications. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and the ability to collaborate effectively in virtual teams help you stand out in this role. These skills ensure you can deliver high-quality software solutions while maintaining integrity, productivity, and alignment with organizational and faith-based values in a remote environment.

Job description

PRODUCT ENGINEERING — REMOTE

Senior Software Engineer / Architect

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer / Architect to join our engineering organization as a senior individual contributor. This is a high-impact, hands-on technical leadership role for someone who loves getting deep in the code while also shaping the long-term direction of how we build software.

About the role

As one of our most senior engineers, you'll own large sections of our codebase, drive architectural decisions across a ~45-person engineering organization, and set the technical direction for major areas of our stack. You'll be expected to write and review code regularly — this is not a purely advisory role.

You'll work closely with technical leads and senior engineers, multiplying their effectiveness through mentorship, cross-team collaboration, and clear technical vision. You'll look 6–12+ months ahead, identify areas of greatest need, and build the plans to address them.

What you'll do

Own the architecture and long-term technical roadmap for major areas of our technology stack

Lead and drive the design of complex, scalable systems that meet business needs today and tomorrow

Reduce complexity — consistently find ways to get more done with less by simplifying services, processes, and codebases

Mentor technical leads and senior engineers; multiply team effectiveness through cross-functional facilitation and inclusive decision-making

Act as a technical evangelist — collaborate with executives and stakeholders to align technical and business strategies

Drive innovation in cost-effectiveness, scalability, and engineering productivity across the division

Proactively identify and mitigate technical debt; introduce improvements that raise the quality and velocity of the whole team

What we're looking for

5+ years of experience working in software development

Deep expertise in software architecture, system design, and scalability with a strong hands-on background

Proficiency with our core stack: Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, and PostgreSQL

Proven track record of making high-impact technical decisions in complex, production environments

Excellent cross-functional communication — equally effective with engineers and non-technical stakeholders

A track record of mentoring senior engineers and technical leads and elevating the people around you

Strong understanding of security, performance, resilience, and cloud-native design at scale

Continuous learner who stays current with industry trends and emerging technologies
