Heartland Christian School in Council Bluffs, IA is seeking to hire a Principal. This position reports to the Executive Director and supervises Students and staff of Heartland Christian School.

Nature and Scope of Job

The Principal serves as the educational leader, responsible for managing the policies, regulations, and procedures set out by the Board of Heartland Christian School and by the Iowa Department of Education as they apply to Heartland Christian School. The Principal is responsible to ensure that students are supervised in a safe Christian learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of Heartland Christian School.

Achieving academic and spiritual excellence requires that the Principal work collaboratively to direct and nurture all members of the school staff and to communicate effectively with parents. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for scheduling, curriculum development, staff development, extra-curricular activities, personnel management, emergency procedures, and facility operations.

Job Functions and Responsibilities
  1. Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
  2. Manage, evaluate and supervise effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values and goals of the school including instructional programs, discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly educational climate, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations, and emergency procedures. Ensure all compliance with all laws, board policies and civil regulations.
  3. Establish the annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for students consistent with the schoolโ€™s philosophy, mission statement and instructional goals.
  4. Supervise in a fair and consistent manner effective discipline and attendance systems with high standards, consistent with the philosophy, values, and mission of the school. Ensure a safe, orderly environment that encourages students to take responsibility for behavior and creates high morale among staff and students. File all required reports regarding violence, vandalism, attendance and discipline matters.
  5. Keep abreast of developments in Christian school curriculum and instruction and provide leadership in determining the appropriateness of incorporating recent developments/trends into the schoolโ€™s educational program.
  6. Supervise the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.
  7. Keep the Executive Director advised of staff members not meeting their contractual agreement.
  8. Communicate regularly with parents, seeking their support and advice, so as to create a cooperative relationship to support the students in the school.
  9. Complete in a timely fashion all records and reports as requested by the Board. Maintain accurate attendance records for staff and students.
  10. Communicate with the Board concerning the needs, successes and general operation of the school.
  11. Attend required committee meetings (e.g. curriculum, staff development) and extra school sponsored events.
  12. Oversee the Curriculum Committee.
  13. Chair the Student Affairs Committee.
  14. Inform and consult with the Executive Director regularly on the overall operation of the school.
  15. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director and/or the Board.
