Christian Recovery information

What is Christian recovery?

Christian Recovery refers to addiction recovery programs or support groups that are based on Christian faith and biblical principles. These programs often incorporate prayer, scripture, and fellowship alongside traditional recovery techniques to help individuals overcome substance abuse or other life-controlling issues. The goal is to address not just the physical and emotional aspects of addiction, but also the spiritual needs of participants. Popular examples include Celebrate Recovery and faith-based rehab centers. Participation is typically open to anyone, regardless of their current faith background.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Christian recovery counselor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Christian Recovery Counselor, you need a background in counseling, addiction recovery principles, and a strong understanding of Christian faith, often supported by relevant degrees or certifications in counseling or ministry. Familiarity with case management software, addiction recovery programs, and faith-based curriculum is typically required. Compassion, active listening, and the ability to build trust are essential soft skills for supporting individuals through recovery. These skills ensure holistic support that addresses both spiritual and practical needs, fostering lasting recovery and personal growth.

How does a Christian recovery specialist typically collaborate with other professionals to support client progress?

A Christian Recovery Specialist often works closely with counselors, medical professionals, and spiritual leaders to provide holistic support to clients. Collaboration may involve regular meetings with a multidisciplinary team to discuss client progress, coordinate care plans, and ensure that both spiritual and practical needs are being addressed. Open communication and mutual respect are key, as the specialist balances faith-based guidance with evidence-based recovery practices. This team approach helps create a supportive network for clients, enhancing their chances for long-term recovery.

  • Provide pastoral care, prayer, biblical encouragement, and spiritual support to residents, guests, staff, and volunteers.

  • Provide crisis intervention, grief support, and pastoral care during difficult situations
  • Connect residents and guests to church services.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated Christian faith and agreement with the Las Vegas Rescue Mission’s Statement of Faith and values.
  • Pastoral, ministry, chaplaincy, discipleship, or church leadership experience.
  • Ability to teach Scripture clearly and apply it to real-life recovery and life-rebuilding situations.
  • Strong pastoral care, listening, communication, and interpersonal skills. Servant hearted leadership with a desire to love people where they are without judgement or condemnation.
  • Ability to minister wisely to people regardless of their backgrounds and support their individual relationship with faith.
  • High level of spiritual maturity, humility, integrity, emotional steadiness, and professional boundaries. Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and communicate at a high level.
  • Active involvement in a local Christian church and good standing with church leadership.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Ministry, Theology, Biblical Studies, Counseling, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
  • Ordination, commissioning, seminary training, rescue mission experience, recovery ministry experience, or Clinical Pastoral Education preferred but not required.
  • Data entry experience
  • Experience using Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel.
