Union University seeks a qualified individual for the position of Adjunct Instructor in Music - Piano.

Essential Job Duties
  • Teach applied piano, group piano classes, and theory and musicianship courses as assigned. Candidate must have the ability to teach Musicianship/Aural Skills and Keyboard Improvisational Techniques in a variety of styles.
    • Courses include:
      MUS 129 Secondary Applied Lessons Freshman (Piano/Commerical Keyboard)
      MUS 229 Secondary Applied Lessons Sophomore (Piano/Commerical Keyboard)
      MUS 329 Secondary Applied Lessons Junior (Piano/Commerical Keyboard)
      MUS 429 Secondary Applied Lessons Senior (Piano/Commerical Keyboard)
      MUS 121, 122 Class Piano
      Emphasis in: Classical and Commercial Piano and Keyboard Techniques, Worship or Commercial music Ensemble coaching, and Keyboard Improvisation techniques
  • Provide direction and supervision for student worship groups and praise teams as assigned.
  • Perform in Faculty and University ensembles as directed.

Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance, Piano Pedagogy, Commerical Music, Jazz Studies, or equivalent is required. Candidates without a Masters degree but with experience in teaching, solo and collaborative performance, and ensemble coaching will be strongly considered.
This position also requires the ability to work in a team leadership setting and strong collaborative skills. The ability to teach Music Theory and Aural Skills courses, Keyboard Improvisation techniques, and Group Piano classes is necessary. The candidate must also have the ability to perform in a variety of music styles, including but not limited to classical music, popular and rock music styles including improvisation, and jazz or blues.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with a Ph.D. or D.M.A. in Piano performance or equivalent. Extensive solo, symphonic, and/or chamber music performance experience and 3 years of university-level teaching experience in applied and class piano, theory and musicianship is preferred.

Successful candidates must be professing Christians who are active members of a local church, enthusiastically support Union University's Identity, Mission, Core Values, and Statement of Faith, and articulate a Christian worldview in their work and life.
Physical Requirements
The work performed by this position is of a general office/administrative/teaching nature. It requires the ability to operate a computer, and communicate on the telephone and in writing. Work performed does require some walking on campus, extended periods of time sitting, and some daily instances of bending, stooping, and carrying items up to 25 pounds.
