Instructional Faculty - Arts+Media - Theater
This position offices in-person, on campus
ROLE SUMMARY
Faculty members at Valor Christian High School are charged with preparing tomorrow's leaders to transform the world for Christ. An Instructional Faculty - Theater member in the Arts+Media department at Valor equips students to pursue artistic excellence and Christ-centered leadership through high-quality theater instruction, mentorship, and productions. This role develops students' performance and technical theater skills, directs theatrical productions, fosters creative and spiritual growth, and supports students' collegiate and professional aspirations. The faculty member also cultivates a collaborative, excellence-driven arts culture while partnering with the broader Arts+Media department and Conservatory for the Arts program.

- Integrate Biblical truth and Christian worldview authentically into artistic practice, helping students understand how faith shapes creativity, storytelling, cultural influence, and aesthetic purpose
- Use innovative instructional techniques such as project-based learning, studio critique, rehearsal processes, collaborative production workflows, technology-enhanced creation, and performance-based assessment to cultivate imagination, technical proficiency, and critical thinking
- Engage with a variety of curricula and levels, including introductory, conservatory, honors, dual-credit, and AP courses (where applicable), with a commitment to helping students achieve artistic excellence and personal growth
- Collaborate closely within the Arts & Media faculty team to develop coherent scope and sequences, cross-disciplinary projects (e.g., film + acting, design + journalism, music + production), and consistent assessments that reflect both craft and rigor
Primary Responsibilities
- Deliver dynamic, high-quality instruction in foundational and advanced theater courses, including acting, performance, stagecraft, and theatrical production
- Develop students' skills in character development, script analysis, audition preparation, ensemble collaboration, and stage presence
- Instruct students in a variety of acting methodologies and performance techniques
- Lead students in blocking, staging, choreography collaboration, pacing, and overall production storytelling
- Collaborate with music directors, choreographers, technical theater staff, and arts faculty to create high-quality theatrical productions
- Oversee aspects of theatrical production, including rehearsals, casting, scheduling, backstage operations, and performance execution
- Foster a classroom and rehearsal culture that promotes creativity, professionalism, collaboration, discipline, and artistic excellence
- Mentor students in performance preparation for festivals, competitions, showcases, and collegiate auditions when applicable
- Integrate industry-relevant practices and contemporary theater trends into instruction and production work
- Manage the school's Thespian Troupe, coordinate student participation in the annual International Thespian Festival (ThesCon), and facilitate involvement in the Bobby G Awards when Valor participates in these activities
- Support the broader vision of the Arts+Media / Performing Arts program through interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement
- Provide support, coaching, and mentorship to the Conservatory for the Arts

Students grew in artistic excellence, confidence, and character, experienced God's love and purpose for their lives, and were equipped to use their creative gifts to influence culture for Christ.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
- Bachelor's degree in Theater, Musical Theater, Performing Arts, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred
- Demonstrated experience directing both dramatic and musical theater productions
- Experience teaching multiple levels of theater education, preferably at the high school level
- Working knowledge of theatrical production processes including lighting, sound, costumes, scenic design, and stage management
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Commitment to student development, artistic excellence, and collaborative program culture
- Solid biblical and theological foundation and understanding
- Desire to teach and/or experience within Christian education
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics are varied and include classroom, office, and outdoor events while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is also varied.
POSITION TYPE: A: Student-facing position. Traditional school calendar. August - May. This position offices in-person, on campus.
HOURS PER WEEK:
- Part-Time - Expected 60%, 2 section course load AND leading one of our major productions (Note for the 2026-2027 school year, this position will lead the Fall Play+Vespers)
- Exempt (Varied hours based on rotating color block schedule)
- Evening and weekend work as required
SUPERVISOR: Department Chair, Arts+Media - Performing Arts
PAY RANGE: $33,000 - $45,000
