Position Summary

The Medical Assistant plays a key role in supporting both clinical and front office operations. This position works closely with providers to deliver high-quality care while ensuring efficient patient flow and a positive, welcoming experience for every patient.

Key Responsibilities
  • Register patients and collect necessary demographic, insurance, and eligibility information
  • Process co-pays and assist with scheduling
  • Prepare patients for examination by obtaining medical history and documenting accurately in the medical record
  • Measure and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight
  • Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, EKG, pregnancy testing) and report results to providers
  • Draw blood and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Prepare, clean, and stock exam rooms; monitor inventory levels
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the medical record system
  • Support front desk responsibilities, including phone management and patient communication
  • Conduct patient follow-up calls as needed
  • Complete opening and closing duties, including cash handling and end-of-day reconciliation
  • Perform equipment checks, quality control, and troubleshooting as needed
  • Follow all clinical, safety, and organizational policies and procedures
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Minimum of1 year of Medical Assistant experience(required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required at time of hire)
    • Must be obtained through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate of a Medical Assisting program
  • Experience in urgent care, emergency department, or hospital setting
  • Prior experience with patient registration or front desk responsibilities
Certification Requirements

Candidates with less than three (3) years of Medical Assistant experience must:

  • Hold an approved Medical Assistant certificationOR
  • Obtain certification within12 months of hire

Accepted certifications include:

  • CCMA - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA)
  • CMA - Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA or CHP)
  • RMA - Registered Medical Assistant (AMT, AAH or ARMA)
  • NCMA - National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT)
  • NRCMA - Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP)
Alternative Qualifications

Candidates may be considered without certification at time of hire if they have:

  • 3+ years of Medical Assistant experience, AND
  • 1+ year of experience in an urgent care, emergency department, or hospital setting
Additional Accepted Credentials

The following credentials may be accepted in lieu of a Medical Assistant certification:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Additional Requirements
  • CPOE (Computerized Provider Order Entry) certification must be obtained within2 weeks of start date
