Job description

Purpose of the Job:

Under the leadership of the Lead Pastor, the Director of Worship is responsible for creating, managing and overseeing the overall worship experience of The dReam Center Church of Atlanta. This individual will require a firm grasp of the beliefs, values and culture of The dReam Center Church and have the ability to effectively minister through music and collaborate well with all music ministries, creative ministries and leaders. The Director of Worship will lead our Worship teams and work closely with the Lead Pastor, Music Director and Creative Director to plan, oversee and execute all musical aspects of the ministry.

This role will oversee the following ministry teams of staffers and volunteers:

Choirs
Bands
Ensembles
Liturgical Dance
Youth Choirs and Ensembles
dRama Ministry

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Lead Pastor and Creative Director, creates engaging and exciting weekly worship experiences and special services through planning, coordination and execution.
  • Provides leadership oversight to ensure relationship, discipleship, fellowship and leadership of worship teams.
  • Leads the congregation in worship in the spirit of excellence and authenticity.
  • Adheres to set vision for each week’s services.
  • Contributes to the preparation of weekly service flow according to established deadlines.
  • Regularly reviews and refreshes the worship experience for cultural relevance.
  • Ensures there is always an environment that encourages spiritual growth.
  • Oversees the development and growth of worship leaders, band, dancers, actors/actresses and choir members.
  • Responsible for selecting music and other creative elements for all services.
  • Regularly communicates with direct report teams and other ministry partners to relay pertinent information related to service requirements and other church wide events and initiatives.
  • Ensures smooth transitions and flow during all services.
  • Oversees the recruiting, training and mentoring team members and leaders.
  • Collaborates with the AVL team to ensure high-quality sound for all services.
  • Identify the strengths of all minstrels and singers to steward a creative environment.
  • Oversee team schedules to ensure proper coverage for all positions.
  • Ensure all teams are adequately prepared for all services through preparation and participation in required rehearsals.
  • Holds the team accountable to established goals and expectations, and provides feedback through regular 1 on 1s and team meetings with thorough documentation.
  • Promotes expansion and growth by growing volunteer teams.
  • Attends all required staff meetings, creative team meetings, and other working sessions as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in music, theology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience leading in a church.
  • Proven experience in leading worship, team building, and managing adult and youth volunteers.
  • A heart for worship and a passion for leading others into God’s presence.
  • Ability to lead worship with authenticity and theological soundness.
  • Experience working in a church of 1,500 or more in weekly attendance is preferred.
  • Ability to handle constructive feedback and adapt to the needs of the congregation.

  • This position may require evening, weekend and holiday work to accommodate ministry events and church activities.
