Details
DUTIES: (1) Conduct the University of Utah Chamber Singers and A Capella Choir; (2) Develop and maintain a national/international reputation as a choral conductor; (3) Administrate the School of Music Choral Program, including overseeing graduate teaching assistant conductors; (4) Teach conducting courses (5) Serve as advisor for graduate conducting students; (6) Participate in curriculum development efforts in the Conducting Area, including undergraduate- and graduate-level conducting and literature courses; (6) Collaborate with faculty in the choral, music education, voice, and opera areas to oversee and distribute resources in these areas; (7) Actively recruit undergraduate and graduate students to The University of Utah in both on campus and off campus events; (8) Provide leadership and coordination for undergraduate and graduate student recruitment efforts in the choral and voice areas; (9) Build and maintain productive relationships with local and regional school and community choral directors and singers; (10) engage with current choral program curricula and ensembles while developing new opportunities for broader choral opportunities in the School of Music; (11) Perform administrative duties and serve on committees as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctorate in music is required; clear potential for a distinguished career as a conductor at national and international levels; demonstrated achievement as a choral conductor at the university level; experience performing repertory that enriches the cultural, artistic, and aesthetic range of performance experiences to which students are exposed; experience in teaching conducting courses at the university level; demonstrated ability to work closely in collaboration with applied faculty and other conducting colleagues; experience engaging with secondary school choral students.

Special Instructions for Candidates
PROCEDURE: The letter of application, curriculum vitae (including the names, telephone numbers, and email addresses of 3 to 5 persons who can provide a reference), succinct teaching/conducting philosophy statement, (unofficial) copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and a video link to one unedited collegiate-level performance demonstrating a variety of musical styles. A link to this video should be added to the end of the letter of application. The review of applications will begin on August 15th, 2026, and will continue until the position has been filled. Candidates who move to the second round will be asked to submit a video link to one unedited collegiate-level 30 to 60-minute choral rehearsal and a PDF portfolio of previous concert programs. The rehearsal video and concert programs will be due no later than September 30th, 2026. Candidates should complete their on-line application prior to August 15th to ensure full consideration. Candidates who proceed to the final level will be required to participate in a routine FBI background check.
