Job Description - Junior High Choir/Band Teacher

Hazel Park is seeking applicants for the position of a Hazel Park Schools Junior High Choir/Band Teacherfor the 2026/2027 school year. The district is served by caring and professional teaching and other staff who provide instruction and support to approximately 2,900 students. The Hazel Park community is proud and supportive of its schools, the staff and student population.

The successful candidate for this position will be an honest, approachable communicator, who is student-centered in his or her approach.
Responsibilities and Duties:

  • This position is primarily Choir, for the 26/27 school year, one band class is also on the schedule.
  • Direct and supervise all school choir performances, and assist with band performances.
  • Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in band.
  • Provide opportunities for choir participation in curricular and extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and other activities.
  • Provide an educational program that meets the educational needs of each student in the teacher's area of responsibility.
  • Provide instruction consistent with District and school expectations and which meets the educational needs of all students assigned to the teacher.
  • Communicate with students, parents, administrators and other staff members in a manner which is consistent with District and school expectations.
  • Maintain student records, organize resources and foster a learning environment which are consistent with District and school expectations, while maximizing student learning.
  • Manage time, equipment, and materials efficiently and maintain a physical environment that is well organized, safe and student focused.
  • Plan, prepare and implement instruction and assessment used to measure student growth.
  • Honor and carry out the District initiatives and goals.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Communicate student progress and development with parents and staff.
  • Demonstrate creative and innovative lesson plans that contribute to a highly engaged learning community.
  • Create a caring and nurturing learning atmosphere that allows for emotional and social growth students.

Required Education/Certification:

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate including JX or JQ certification

 Preferred:

  • Skilled in addressing the unique academic, developmental, physical and social needs of adolescents.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents and staff.
  • Strong communication, technology and organizational skills.
  • Understanding of how to work with and support a diverse learning community including English Language Learners and Special Educations students and their families.
  • Knowledge of data and how it is used to inform instruction.


Reports to the Principal of Hazel Park Junior High

Salary in accordance with the HPEA Salary Schedule. Additional Stipend per Schedule B for JH Marching Band.
